VacationCherie Posted November 24, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 24, 2018 Hi all! We're travelling on the Oasis of Seas on the May 5/19 cruise out of Barcelona. I've seen other threads where folks have posted a screen cap of their newsletters by the day. I'm wondering if, by any chance, someone may have a screen cap of a Disembarking Day newsletter from a previous Barcelona trip. We've been cautioned by RC to not book flights any earlier than 1:00pm out of Barcelona, but I've been reading threads here where people say they've been to the airport as early at 7:30am!! We're early risers and would be happy to carry our own luggage off the ship, if that makes disembarking faster. We're hoping an 11:00am-ish flight is doable ... Thanks so much and my apologies if this question has been asked and answered a million times before. It's been (too many!) years since we've been on a cruise and I don't remember the procedure. Desert Cruizers Posted November 24, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 24, 2018 The problem in trying to get to an airport after a cruise early, is everyone first needs to wait on the ship being cleared. Depending on any delays, in my experience, those wishing to walk off a ship early will get to the waiting area on board around 5:00 to 6 AM. The earlier the better to be near the front of the line. The Barcelona cruise port to airport is roughly a 30 minute drive. if you book a flight for 9 AM, you will be cutting it way to close to disembark, get to airport and check in and through Security to get your plane providing there are no delays. Traveling in and out of FLL is far easier because the airport is within 5 minutes of the cruise port, but again the ship needs to be cleared first and the earliest I have gotten off ( Galveston ) was close to 7:30 AM. I still had 1 1/2 hrs to IAH International. We were on the road by 8 AM.
truffles2 Posted November 24, 2018 #3 Share Posted November 24, 2018 We usually debark and stay the day and night in Barcelona, then have an easy, stress-free trip to the airport the next day. The better connections seem to be early in the day too.
Desert Cruizers Posted November 24, 2018 #4 Share Posted November 24, 2018 Truffles we did that once but in FLL. The ease of staying over 1 night then getting the early shuttle to airport was so much easier. I am considering doing this when the daughter & I do our first Greek Isle cruise since the cruise port is 1 hour away from Rome INTL. Gay
voyager70 Posted November 24, 2018 #5 Share Posted November 24, 2018 We easily made a 10:30 flight out of BCN on our last Med cruise. I wouldn't aim for much earlier than that though.
KiwiGal117 Posted November 24, 2018 #6 Share Posted November 24, 2018 The nice thing about Barcelona is that you don't have to clear immigration or anything - just get off, get your luggage (if you don't carry it off) and go outside to grab a taxi. I think 11 is very doable, as the airport isn't that far from the port (maybe 10 to 15 minutes away). Try to get their early though, as security can take a while. yuvraj Posted November 24, 2018 #7 Share Posted November 24, 2018 I have done quite a few cruises from Barcelona. For me the best option is to catch an evening flight, disembark at leisure and spend the day touring the city. You can usually get a day room to park your luggage and to freshen up before your flight. Things you cannot guarantee : Time ship reaches port and get's clearance. Time to get to airport Delays at the airport Generally things go smoothly and according to schedule but not always.

clean1owner Posted November 24, 2018 #9 Share Posted November 24, 2018 On our last Mediterranean cruise we booked an 11:30 flight out of BCN and had plenty of time to sit around looking out the windows. We also booked a private car so we didn't have to wait for a taxi.

If we could be on the road by 8:00am and to the airport by 8:30am-ish - I would think a late morning flight would be perfect. Appreciate your reply! One less hurdle we have to jump. But you're right - have to take into account the security at the airport - which is always busy!! Thank you for your reply, KiwiGal117!
