transportation Whittier to Anchorage

Hello, we are traveling on a Princess Cruise to Anchorage (Whittier) in July.  We hoped to take the train from Anchorage to Denali but did not realize how far Whittier is from Anchorage.  Our train is at 8:15 am.  If we are first off the ship at 6:15, does anyone have a suggestion for the most efficient transportation we could get to Anchorage?

because of the tunnel you wont make it in any case. Car rentals dont open, one way rentals are pricey as are private shuttles. Any shuttle wont get you to ANC before 11 or 12

Probably your only hope.  Also would be a fantastic trip. Been there and done it.  One of the greatest experiences of my life.  VERY HIGHLY recommend doing a cruise tour with Princess.  They take care of everything.  That being said...…..everything will book up no matter how you plan to travel.  Book early.  Our cruise tour booked up over a year in advance.

I wanted to take the train from Anchorage to Fairbanks after arriving in Whittier, when I cruised in 2017.  I used a Princess transfer from Whittier to Anchorage, spent the day and night in Anchorage (which I enjoyed) and took the train the next day.

The ship may arrive at 6:15 but pax will not be able to deboard until later like 7:30 or so.  There is the problem with the tunnel.  It is one way and shares it with the train.  The train has priority over the others.  You can expect a delay getting through the tunnel if traveling by bus/car.  The other problem is that the train travels slow at around 20 to 30 MPH.  It is not a high speed transportation alternative.  This includes not only the trip to Anchorage but also the trip to Denali.  The tracks are old and cannot support faster trains.  I have taken the train to Anchorage as well as the train to Denali and on to Fairbanks.
