Straws

Just off the Freedom, yes you did have to ask. After our first visit to the Alchemy my wife always had a straw in her Basil Drop, I didn't need one for my drinks. You just don't use a straw with a martini. When ordering a drink at the other bars we asked for a straw and they gladly provided us with one. Not one lecture about trying to save the ocean and/or planet.

Depends on the bar and bartender. I’m on Dream now. There are none at the alchemy but I grab them from the bar next to alchemy. They have them in the casino and atrium but you may have to grab them yourself depending on the bartender.

Every post I’ve made after my straw comment are supposed to be on my live review if mods can clean it up. Too bad we can’t delete posts...or edit after like 15-20mins.

Perfect, glad its an option when needed.  It was a pain trying to drink a frozen drink without a straw.  Thanks!

Got off the Sunshine yesterday and had Cheers. I had no problems with obtaining straws except once which was on Saturday towards the end of the cruise  I ordered a Pina Coloda and was given a lecture that Carnival is going to paper straws and before I could say there are straws behind the counter his coworker told him to give me a straw.

I despise paper straws.  They taste horrible.  They get mushy and hard to work with.  If you don't get free refills, then you will be cheated out of some of the drink you paid for because the straw absorbed some of the liquid.

OK, this part I can understand, though I find they get mushy only if you are really slow to drink your drink.  We got a drink at Jack's Shack in Grand Turk, and they use paper straws - because we only wanted one drink on the beach we took our time, and it took a long while to get "soft" and mildly annoying.

On the other hand, that is a ludicrous bit of reasoning - the straw can absorb, maybe 20-30 drops of your drink, say 1 ml or 1/30 fl oz, probably a lot less, far less than the tiniest sip of your 16 oz drink.  Unless you are drinking Cuban/espresso coffee (those 1 fl oz servings), the randomized serving size of the pour will change your actual drink consumption far, far more.

If you are that concerned about the straw absorbing your drink, ask for one less ice cube next time, you'll be blown away!

I know that the drink loss is small.  That doesn't change the fact that you are getting less than you paid for.  I like getting everthing that I paid for.

I don't get ice when I get fountain drinks because the liquid is already cold.
