39august Posted January 15, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Is it possible to rent a car in Lahaina? We were there 2 years ago and there were none at that time. We were on a land vacation so picked ours up at the airport. But this time we'll be crusing and renting a car would be good if we can do it. spleen93 Posted January 15, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2006 What do you mean by "in Lahaina"? There have always been rentals nearby at Kaanapali/Kapalua Airport (which is about a 10 minute drive from Lahaina) - they usually send shuttles to meet the cruise ships as they dock. But no, there's really no car rental in Lahaina itself. Spleen
Bucky3 Posted January 15, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 15, 2006 We rented from Enterprise at the Sheraton in Kaanapali. We called on our cell phone and a van came to pick us up. It was very convenient for us as we spent the day up at Kapalua Beach and Napili Bay. When you return the car they shuttle you back to the ship. 39august Posted January 16, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted January 16, 2006 Thanks to both of you. I will let my fellow cruisers know also.
Middleager Posted January 16, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 16, 2006 Do book ahead of time. We booked on-line and got a van for $40 with Alamo. They picked up at the pier, and was fairly quick to pickup. When we were at the office, the guy was answering phone and said a van is $99/day -- that's what other people paid when picking that day, for that one last available van. We drove to Hana, and full circle back. It took less than a full tank.
Irishwhiskey Posted January 19, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 19, 2006 We were one of the few people who had a car waitng for us .The only concern we had was getting to the car company. The one and only van that picks you up takes 20min. round trip with no less than 30 people waiting for it.We rented for two days so it wasn't a problem for us but anyone who had to be back on their ship by 3 pm didn't want to wait for the next van. Many people that did not reserve a car were turned away and had to find another car company that was close by.Some people paid a taxi instead of waiting. It just seemed that everyone got off of their ships at the same time and tried to get to the car rental together.John
