We are going on the Pride and been couple of years since we cruise on Carnival and sadly we have become intent junke. 

buying pre-crusie is for the whole week. Can you buy on the ship daily, for only the days we want to check email?

You can buy the Value and Premium plans on a daily basis. The Social plan is only sold by the week.

On the Breeze last week we could purchase 24 hours of wi-fi for around $16

If you just want to occasionally check email, do it for free in the ports, much better signal than the ship.

I'd liken the speed to (at best) old time dial-up. Certain areas are better/worse. It is certainly the easiest way to get wifi, and I'm not knocking its use. However I do try to bring my tablet (Kindle) off the ship at each island. Keep in mind that McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks, etc. WORLDWIDE provide free internet for the price of a cup of coffee. We've sat in Mickey Dees in Tahiti, Australia, Alaska etc. and used the free wifi. Here's a site that lists many free sites---just scroll to the Caribbean. WIFIFREESPOT DOT COM                            On most islands, if there is no convenient free wifi area there is usually an "internet cafe" near the pier which has the wifi for $4 or $5 an hour. I found this cafe "next to" the ship in Bora Bora

thanks everyone. We may be selling our house best case it will be all done-- worst case the realtor may need to connect us. If we could just buy on sea days that would be great.
