Rare gdlamberth Posted January 2, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2019 Can one walk or can the local transportation (buses etc.) in these towns get one to most of the local attractions (Cable beach, ANZAC Museum, and such)? Thanks, Greg

Thanks, Greg Broome has a Hop On Hop Off that travels to Cable Beach and Gantheaume Point (dinosaur footprints and one of the best places to see the red sandstone melting into the azure sea) both of which are about a 10 min drive from the town itself - in opposite directions. It doesn't run all year round and there was a rumour it was so popular that the cruise ships now book it exclusively when in port, so you should check dates. megsie Posted January 5, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2019 (edited) Albany, when we were there, had free shuttles from the working port to the town centre although it was 4 years ago. When in the town centre, just in front of the ship’s shuttle drop off, we bought tickets for a minibus shuttle. The minibus we caught took us to the Anzac centre and also a drop off at the mounted soldier monument. It dropped us off at the Anzac centre, spend whatever time there and get another shuttle back. There was no cost to explore the walks and general area but a cost to enter the main building to see the exhibitions when we were there. Fabulous place, heart breaking to walk the hill up to where the locals farewelled the troops and reading all the information along the way, especially the letters sent home by the men. It might be wise to send an email to the local tourist information to see if shuttles or tours still run from the town centre. diane.in.ny Posted January 10, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2019 (edited) We were in Albany and Broome in October 2018. In Albany we took the shuttle into town. There was a kiosk set up by the local tour company selling tours. I don't know if they had one for ANZAC museum but the visitor center is also right there and you could ask. In Broome, the tourist authority had things arranged with the local buses. AUD $10 for all day bus rides. Plenty of buses to and from Cable Beach.
