Hello everyone,

 

We just booked a Canada-New England cruise on the Maasdam departing May 20th. Our TA wants to know if we want "early upper sitting" or "early lower sitting". Are both sittings at the same time ? If not, at what time are each sittings ?

At the moment on most HAL ships, Early Upper 5:45 pm and Early Lower is at 6:15 pm. I am surprised your TA did not give you all the info you would need to make a decision.

 

If you prefer to eat later, Main (previously called Late) Upper is at 8 pm and Main Lower is at 8:30 pm.

If you are ever in doubt about the dinner times, just check your specific cruise on HAL's website. After you look at the cruise price and cabin categories, go to the bottom of that page and it will list the dinner times and if any are closed.

When making your decision, keep in mind that NE/Canada is a port-intensive cruise. You may want time after a long day ashore to unwind, maybe take a nap, clean up and dress for dinner, and maybe have a cocktail. Or two;) .

We loved late seating on the Maasdam Canada itinerary, particularly since we weren't travelling with our daughter. It allowed us to shift our whole day into vacation mode -- didn't get up too early, breakfast and lunch in the dining room many days, no guilt about enjoying tea or canapes in the late afternoon or early evening, and plenty of time to rest, relax and get ready for dinner after port days. We were also able to enjoy the sailaway views from many of the ports, whereas the early seating folks had to be getting lined up for dinner. The only thing it didn't work well for was the shows, but that wasn't important to us.

 

We had a great time on the Canada cruise, and the Maasdam was a wonderful ship -- just the right size.
