Buckimion Posted January 29, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2019 Have been looking at a wide variety of dates for cruises on the (former) Destiny and Spirit class ships where I've been partial to the 4J/4K class (obstructed window 'interior' ). I am not seeing a single fully accessible cabin in this section anywhere anymore. Does anyone know if these have been eliminated?
Schoifmom Posted January 29, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2019 Those are now ambulatory accessible, as far as I know. I have one booked on my next cruise.
Buckimion Posted January 30, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted January 30, 2019 They used to have a mix, usually a couple of inner 4Js would be fully accessible while the outer pair would be ambulatory. (Never going to make that mistake again. 😧)
CRUISEWITHH Posted January 31, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 31, 2019 Can you tell me what the difference is between fully accessible and ambulatory?
Buckimion Posted January 31, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted January 31, 2019 Ambulatory pretty much means they have a seat in the shower and handrails inthe bathroom. The door width remains standard. Accessible has wider, power doors to assist opening, wider pathways though the room and at least 60" of turnaround space. Last cruise I took an ambulatory cabin and had expected to take my full-size mobility scooter. I ended up using a standard wheelchair which was almost too much. NO turn around space and could just barely pull up to the toilet.
Buckimion Posted February 1, 2019 Author #6 Share Posted February 1, 2019 Figured it out...Carnival tightened up on it's descriptions so that those "single side" accessible no longer show up in the fully accessible section as they have done for the past several months.
