GDM_1975 Posted January 31, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2019 Hi, We've just booked onto the Aurora cruise in November to Norway and the Northern Lights. Obviously the excursions haven't been announced yet, but was wondering if anybody knows what's been offered in the past so we might be able to get a rough idea? We're visiting Andalsnes, Tromso, Alta and Stavanger. Thanks in advance, Geoff.
woodley Posted January 31, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2019 We are booked on this cruise as well and would also be interested. Hope someone with information answers soon. Its so frustrating not being able to view the shore excursions till later in the year. I usually compare the ones the ship offers with ones independently offered then decide which to go with. Have saved a lot of money this way.
Rare Host Sharon Posted February 5, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 5, 2019 Check out the ports section of this site. The excursions for this cruise are VERY expensive but also one of a kind - like husky or reindeer sledging. It will of course also depend on weather conditions and snowfall. I_r_a Posted February 5, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 5, 2019 We booked 04-December 2018, 19:00 – 22:00 AI87 Leisurely Northern Lights Hunt with Alta Event 05-December 2018, 20:00 – 00:00 AI130 Sleigh Ride Under the Northern Lights through "North Adventure" in Alta. In Andalsnes we took the ship's "Scenic Rauma Railway". You can book the train on your own, if you wish. It is cheaper, but it leaves at 09:30. We booked Leisurely Tromsø and Leisurely Stavanger from the ship. Hope this helps. Ira
manonabike Posted February 5, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 5, 2019 we did the cruise last nov-dec. We found we could do everything on our own. we booked a husky trip for Alta independently and visited the Polarium in Tromso. Stavanger and Andalsenes are walkable from the ship. We did have 2 little ones with us so are not good with the excursions. We had good reports for the Hunting Northern Lights trips but it is hit and miss to see them and certainly too late for kids. was a fantastic trip. Enjoy
galeforce9 Posted February 5, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 5, 2019 Alta private husky firms aren’t interested for our late Feb trip. They are all contracted to P&O.
lujaha Posted February 5, 2019 #7 Share Posted February 5, 2019 Yes, I looked into booking privately, but couldn't, so booked with P&O. Will sort out any other tours en route. Not long to go now!

Sunbedsue Posted February 6, 2019 #9 Share Posted February 6, 2019 Hi We did this cruise in November 2017. One trip that we felt excellent was the Tirptiz War Museum in Alta. The information and exhibits were very interesting and had actual items salvaged from the ship. Also mention of the x-boats attack and actual footage from survivors of the event. Probably because it’s a private museum and the visit has to be coordinated with the owner who I understand isn’t in Alta all the time.

It is listed in the sample excursions for the November 2019 cruises however we did not have the option of any snow based trips such as dog sled, Ice hotel or reindeer sleigh as not enough snow, therefore we are back on Aurora this month hoping to do these. sunbedsue
dorsetdumpling Posted February 7, 2019 #12 Share Posted February 7, 2019 We are off on Aurora in 3 weeks to Andalsnes,Tromso,Alta & Stavanger which will be our 2nd Northern Lights Cruise.
