Beach Ideas and Transportatin to in Corfu?

Ship stops in Corfu late September.  Just want to do a beach day.  Have looked some and am thinking rent a car and go to Pelekas Beach.  Good idea?  Bad Idea?  Suggestions please.

We stop in Corfu in July.  Still figuring out what to do and whether to include a beach stop or not.

I can't comment on Pelekas Beach because I haven't been there.  Several years ago we rented a car right at the port and went to Glyfada beach.  Loungers were available for rent and we had a great lunch at a taverna on the beach.  The roads were well marked.  I wouldn't hesitate to rent a car and go to the beach again.
