shipsmail Posted February 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2019 We will board the CLOUD in Ushuaia after a two days hotel stay booked on our own. Therefore we will not have a transfer by Silversea. The hotel told us, that they have to use a special limo service authorised to enter the dock. What is your experience? Can we arrive just at the gate/entrance/security control of the port and expect that there will be a Silversea representative and that our luggage will be taken care of from there? Thank you for any info from guests, who have boarded the ship in Ushuaia without a Silversea transfer.
labrasett Posted February 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2019 I dont really "know" but the port is small and the ship will not be far from the entrance so I suspect provided you have your ticketing documentation you will be able to just walk on board if you arrive at the correct arrival window. Surely your Silversea booking agent can confirm this for you. Which trip are you doing?

cflutist Posted February 6, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2019 (edited) We sailed on the Cloud on 12/22/2018 . After eating lunch at their designated restaurant, we were told that we could NOT just walk over to the pier to board because it is a working pier, think loading and unloading container ships. We had to get back on the bus to get through the gate to board. However. I did talk to a passenger who had arrived on her own 3 days early. She said that they also gave her grief about entering the port on foot, but they finally let her through. Rare drron29 Posted February 7, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2019 When we were on the Explorer from Ushuaia we had spent 3 nights in a hotel independently before the cruise. We were given the line we had to go by their bus but instead we just turned up at the dock. There is an entrance for passengers who are on foot.An Immigraton/customs officer checked passports and viewed our cruise ticket. Then let us through. No problems at all. Rare RachelG Posted February 9, 2019 #9 Share Posted February 9, 2019 So here is the scoop on the port at Ushuaia. It is pretty large, but easy to navigate. Taxis are not allowed inside, but the special limousine service may be. If you take a taxi, you will have to walk a pretty long way to the ship, which is totally doable and on good pavement, but you will have to carry or pull your luggage, we didsee people doing this.

Thank you so much for your answer about my question. So we can decide to carry the luggage ourselves, when weather is ok or to use this special limo service if not.
