elle83 Posted January 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2006 We went on the Zenith to Key West, Cozumel & Costa Maya - We had the most fabulous time! - They're were a few issues with the Zenith - but overall - loved her - and would sail her again. Would love to answer any questions you might have! elle83 (aka "The Church Ladies" or "Desperate Housewives" - for any of you that were on the cruise!) slotaddict Posted January 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2006 what were your issues? Also what floor - room where you in? Leaving in a couple of days, have to have to scoop.
elle83 Posted January 20, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted January 20, 2006 Being that I've never been on a cruise - I have nothing to compare it to, but my friends, say they could tell it was an older ship - not as glamorous - But I thought it was just fine - But mainly the problem was with the DJ - He was in the Rainbow Lounge - and did some poolside announcing. He got drunk one night - and showed up late for his gig in the Rainbow Loung - Got on the mic and started swearing up a storm - Security came and escorted him away. He showed up the next day at the pool doing a gig, (did fine) and then that night he was suppose to be back at the Rainbow Lounge and he never showed up. It was a joke. It was supposed to be 50's and 60's night - so a lot of "older" people were there - but they never really played too much of it. The band "Changez" played some of it - then they stopped for the DJ - who wasn't there - then they just played typical dance music - which lost the majority of their crowd - and was left with the what few young people were on the ship. I was with a group of women - mostly mid 30's. We fell somewhere inbetween most people on the cruise. The other issue was the spraying of bleach everywhere. I guess there were some outbreaks of illness - alot of people on the 4th or 5th floor had gotten some kind of virus - several were quanantined. They're were alot of people whose clothes were wrecked from the bleach on the stairs, elevators, etc. They'd spray the bleach, and didn't wipe it. It's kind of bazaar - The mirrors, glass, etc. were always a mess from it. We had the BEST waiter - his name was Mauricio - from Venezula. So cute! - We had so much fun with him. Very tall and handsome!! If you see him or Cem from Turkey (he serves drinks wherever - like a waiter) Tell him Teresa from Ohio said Hi! Don't miss the Fleet Bar on the 11th floor. Art (guitar guy) was great! We found him too late - with only a couple of days left. Tell him too, that I said Hi if you see him! We were on the 6th floor - 6138 - I thought the room was great. We had great room stewerds - can't think of his name - something like Romando - but our friends around the corner had terrible stewerds. The mattresses were even comfortable. I expected a lot worse - from what I've read. So many people have been negative about the decor, etc. I guess I didn't expect the best, so wasn't disappointed, in the least, with that. When do you leave, and who are you going with? Let me know if you want to know what excurisons we took. Have fun!
chessbriar Posted January 20, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2006 Just for your information the DJ was fired. It's not that he didn't show up. They way he acted is not accepted from any X employee. The Cruise Director and Activity Manager did the best they could without a DJ. I have a friend on the activity staff who mentioned they fired the DJ, but would give more information. Now I know why. Please do not hold that against X, that's not something they tolerate.
elle83 Posted January 20, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted January 20, 2006 I don't hold it against Celebrity at all. One person doesn't make Celebrity a bad cruise line. Like I said before - I loved my cruise and I loved the Zenith! Me and my friends like Celebrity's motto - "We'll treat you like a Celebrity"! slotaddict Posted January 20, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 20, 2006 We are in room 6030, I think it has not yet been refurbished. Was your room refurbished? Also we are not doing an excursions from the ship, we are going to do the beach break in Costa Maya, which i am now sorry that I booked, but they will charge my credit card if I cancel. I am looking forward to the trip. I do love the service that Celebrity provides so I am soooooooo looking forward to this trip. Thanks for the info. By the way did you have any of those amazing waffles? You know of all the reviews that I have read not one person mentioned Creme Brulee, which I got hooked on when on another celebrity cruise. Do you remember if it was an offering for desert. Did people generally adhere to the dress code. I see alot of different answers on that questions from alot of different reviews, just wandering what you thought. Not that it matters, I am packed and ready to gooooooooooo. constantcruiser Posted January 20, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 20, 2006 We had creme brulee on the first night aboard the Zenith in late November. Still remember it! We also had problems in the Rainbow Lounge...but with a waiter, not the DJ. He ran around the room taking orders from tables in every section (apparently trying to build up his automatic gratuities) but after 45 minutes, he still hadn't delivered our drinks. We had to leave for dinner before our drinks were served, so DH just wanted to cancel the order and get his Seapass card back. When he finally found the waiter, DH said he had about 40 drink tickets & Seapass cards stacked on his tray...that he was still taking MORE orders, but hadn't turned any in to the bar! He told DH that he didn't have time to search for his Seapass card in the stack, so he'd have to sort through them himself! Sure glad DH was honest enough to take his own card. We spoke to the Captain's Club Hostess about it the next day, and she blew off the whole experience by saying the bar was "understaffed" because there were other events going on at the same time! elle83 Posted January 20, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted January 20, 2006 Roe - Our room was not refurbished - but kept so clean that it didn't bother me at all. I did have some of those fabulous waffles one morning. They were great. It's funny that you asked about Creme Brulee - One of the first nights they offered that as a dessert - It was one of the best I'd ever had - so I jokingly told Maurisio that I wanted that everynight for dessert - the next thing I know- the Maitre'd shows up and Maurisio told him that I want Creme Brulee everynight. Sure enough - every night they served me Creme Brulee - even if I didn't ask for it. It was pretty funny. Everyone seemed to follow the dress code for the most part. I broke dress code on formal night - after dinner I had to go change - I was not comfortable in my dress (too much cleavage!) - But I was one of the few that did. Is the Beach Break in Costa Maya? We went the little town Majahwaul (however you spell it) - It was great - We walked alway the way through town and found Pez Quadro - (read about it on the boards) - The were great - and cheap - with nice bathrooms across the road. We stayed the day there on a lounge chair looking at the incredible ocean. It was my favorite day (Beside Irish Kevins in Key West) I'm so jealous that you're about to go. I want to be back on the ship! Teresa
elle83 Posted January 20, 2006 Author #9 Share Posted January 20, 2006 Constant Cruiser - Were you on Jan 9-14 Cruise? What was the name of the waiter - do you remember? That's reallly interesting - we didn't have any problems with drinks whatsoever. But I had a special waiter always waiting to get me a drink - in whatever room I was in - I looked up and he'd always be right there! - I miss you Cem! I wonder if it's the same one? He was great. Had a habit of sort of singing whenever he spoke. I called him out Singing Waiter. Nice guy if it was the same one. elle83 Posted January 20, 2006 Author #11 Share Posted January 20, 2006 What did he look like? I suppose most Turkish Men have dark hair/eyes, He was short - and was 30, almost 31. Sound the same? - The Cem I met didn't seem to sing alot - but then he was more of our bar waiter - so not as much interaction as regular waiter. You know - come to think of it - Cem was almost done with his 7 months - was going home in 2 - so, I can't imagine it was the same one.

I figured since Celebrity is owned by RCCL that maybe he had transferred. Oh well, Cem must be a common name in Turkey?

slotaddict Posted January 21, 2006 #14 Share Posted January 21, 2006 elle83 thats where we are going to Pez Quatro, it was $30.00 pp, open bar all day. I specifically asked in my email to them if you could snorkel from the beach, they told me that there was a reef about 100ft off the shore, now i read on the boards that there are jetski's and it is not safe to snorkel. did you notice anyone snorkeling, I can pack up my gear in a jiffy. Also did you get one of the beach massages the boards said they were great.
elle83 Posted January 21, 2006 Author #15 Share Posted January 21, 2006 We didn't do the all-inclusive - just drank some here and there. I think I slept alot too! - There was a reef about 100 feet off shore - I didn't see anyone snorkeling - I'm not real familiar with snorkeling - and what the reef is suppose to look like - but it looked brown if I remember right - not sure it was a great place to snorkel - but don't know for sure. I guess I'd throw in your gear to be sure.
elle83 Posted January 21, 2006 Author #16 Share Posted January 21, 2006 Slotaddict - I forgot to answer about the beach massages. No, I didn't get one, only because I didn't bring enough money - otherwise I would have! There are plenty to choose from, pretty close together - I would walk around and see who has the best deal. cruising hokie Posted January 22, 2006 #17 Share Posted January 22, 2006 Were there coin laundry facilities on the Zenith? Just wondering, since it's an older ship.
Rare Lois R Posted January 22, 2006 #18 Share Posted January 22, 2006 Hi, :) Celebrity does not offer any coin operated laundy service on their ships. They offer "ship's services".....$$$ for them doing what you need. Regular laundry, dry cleaning, pressing only, etc.
slotaddict Posted January 22, 2006 #19 Share Posted January 22, 2006 thanks so much for your quick answers. Usually you can tell if there is reef, the water is appears darker than the surrounding water. I'll let you know when I get back. One more day, i can;t stand it.
