blackpool belle Posted February 19, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 19, 2019 Hello, It's been 10 years since I was last on the QM2. Is the evening dress code still formal or is it a little more relaxed these days? In particular, hubby trying to avoid having to pack too many jackets. Thank you. Host Hattie Posted February 19, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 19, 2019 Just as many jackets required but possibly less ties, the Smart Attire dress code is Jacket required, tie optional.

Underwatr Posted February 20, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 20, 2019 A dark suit can be worn for formal (Gala) night and the same jacket can be worn with less formal trousers on (what do they call it now?) Smart Attire nights. But in the dining room, men always need at least a jacket.
Bigmike911 Posted February 20, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 20, 2019 (edited) If you are old enough to remember wearing a tie for work (assuming you worked in an office environment) you may remember wearing one with a jacket can give you options particularly those in different colors and designs which will take the focus from the same jacket ( in my case often a blue blazer) to the tie and give the wearer more flexibility. I also like to match the pocket square with the tie, at least in color to make a plain old jacket look a bit dressier. Ties and pocket squares take up very little room.
