bclub Posted March 6, 2019 #6 Share Posted March 6, 2019 Used Azores Volcano Tours, Nelson Pragana. Found Nelson when we got off the ship in Ponta Delgarda, on a HAL, TA last April. We had 5 of us and found another couple as we negotiated a price. Cannot remember what we paid but think it was around $30-35 per person. Nelson was great, he showed us were he would take us, gave us lots of local info. We went to the pineapple plantation. Do not think Hawaii, these pineapples are grown in green houses. Nelson parked right outside and it was a short walk to the greenhouse. We also went to a tea plantation, up towards the lakes. It was about 4 hrs tour. He dropped us back in the center of town and we had time to find Wi Field. Hope this helps.
joro44 Posted March 6, 2019 #7 Share Posted March 6, 2019 We went on an island tour by PO, that included a visit to a pineapple farm. The cultivation was in greenhouses, showing the different stages that are linked by flat paths. The visit included the farm's showroom/ bar to taste pineapple tipples. A bit of googling will find local providers, at less cost.
tartanexile81 Posted March 7, 2019 #9 Share Posted March 7, 2019 (edited) I definitely wouldn’t book anything in advance for Ponta Delgada. We’ve been quite a few times and the only time we booked in advance the weather was dreadful as it can be in PD with fog and rain. We could see nothing and the guide kept saying - if it wasn’t so foggy you’d see this interesting spot or that lovely view!! You dock in the town and there are numerous taxi drivers waiting to offer you an island tour or at least a visit to Sete Citades or there’s a little train at the end of the pier which will take you round.
