EmmasNana Posted March 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2019 My husband is a lover of ancient civilizations and the cruise line is offering an excursion that gives a glimpse of the Minoan culture. It is a long ride both ways but maybe worth it? Would love to get view of folks who have been here or done this. OVERVIEW Discover an archaeological site unlike any other, one that offers such a visceral snapshot of a mysterious, lost civilization that you just might feel the presence of the Minotaur around the next corner. Located 2-½ hours from port by coach, tour Knossos and the three-story frescoed Palace Complex of King Minos, testaments to the vibrancy of Minoan culture and the significance and splendor of its ancient court. Afterwards, enjoy one hour free-time in Heraklion. IQ22 HIGHLIGHTS Knossos: Glimpse an exquisite remnant of 1700 BC Minoan civilization, later destroyed by natural disaster, and rediscovered in 1878. Palace of Minos: Visit ruins and reconstructed segments of the legendary labyrinth of the Minotaur. Heraklion: Savor free time to seek out local delicacies for lunch, shop or sightsee in the capital of Crete.
Rare dronnygirl Posted March 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2019 Knossos is brilliant for anyone interested in ancient history. It's quite a large site with plenty to see. However, we visited from Heraklion which is only half an hour away. Only you can decide whether the journey is worthwhile. You will find loads of information about knossos if you Google it.
