Victoria Station and Victoria Coach Station?

You would take the train to Victoria, then as Globaliser said, either the tube (Circle line) to High Street Kensington followed by a short walk, or a taxi from Victoria straight to your hotel.

The Gatwick Express runs to Victoria train station so that is where you will exit.  The easiest  route from there would be a taxi to your hotel which is 2-3 miles away.

For your trip to Southampton you would do almost the opposite.  A taxi to Victoria coach station and then National express bus to Southampton coach station, with a taxi to the pier. 

Do note that Victoria train and Coach stations are near to each other but are separate entities.  When leaving for Southampton be sure to identify your destination with the taxi driver as the coach station.

Gatwick Express to London Victoria is the simplest.

 

For simplicity, go to the taxi rank at the front of Victoria station and tell the driver where you need to go. Your hotel used to be the Kensington Close Hotel, so he may still know it by that name, but he should know Wrights Lane W8 anyway - it's just off Kensington High Street (and right next to High Street Kensington Tube station).

 

If you do decide to take the Tube, then go to the District Line westbound platform and take a Circle Line train to High Street Ken, then walk around the corner to the left and walk down Wrights Lane. I think the total walk looks like it's something like 300 yards.
