ExpressoMama Posted March 8, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 8, 2019 Hello, Looking for some help from those of you who are casino goers and Blackjack players. My husband has a few specific questions about the Blackjack tables(specifically on the Indy as that is the ship we’ll be sailing on 3/23, if possible)that he is hoping that someone might be able to answer. 1. Payouts at tables if the player hits a Blackjack? 3-2, 6-5? 2. Number of decks used? 2. Doubling after splitting allowed? 3. Does the dealer need to hit on a soft 16? Thanks for any help you can offer. Diane
Jarmo Posted March 8, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 8, 2019 1. Last time I was on Indy (Dec '17) all tables paid 3-2. Since (on Vision/Mariner), I have seen 3-2 on min $25 and over only, 6-5 elsewhere. 2. 8, pretty sure, could be 6. 3. Yes, except on AA. 4. Do you mean 17? Yes. Diane BJ payouts on all tables $15 minimum or less 6-5 High minimum 2-3 8 decks some ships use a constant shuffling machine. The deal puts the card back in the machine every hand. Doubling down after split not allowed on the single deck table allowed on the 8 deck table. Dealer hits soft 17. I used to play blackjack a lot on the ships, but it hard to win with all their advantages. I do very well in land casinos (Biloxi etc.). But can't seem to stay or even get ahead on the ships. I've changed my gambling plan on the cruises. Play to get enough points to maintain Prime status and enjoy the free cruise once a year, and the free drinks in the casino every cruise. waterbug123 Posted March 8, 2019 #5 Share Posted March 8, 2019 To clarify, there are multideck tables where the dealer shuffles, there are multideck tables with a shuffling machine, and there are single deck tables.
RCCLNYMETS41 Posted March 8, 2019 #6 Share Posted March 8, 2019 Also, my experience has been that if there is an open table of 3-2 BJ that has been vacant for a while (usually because the min bet is too high ($50 or $100) for many players), I have asked the pit boss to lower the min bet to a more comfortable amount ($15 or $25) , and he did. Instead of having a vacant table, people sat down. It never hurts to ask.

The casino was pretty busy and 4 or 5 of us were looking to play but there were no seats at $15 or $25 tables (maybe 1 random seat here or there but no where even 2 of us could have sat and played together.) There was one open table with no one at it but it was a $50 minimum. We circled the tables a few times to see if anyone had left, and finally we asked the pit boss if he would lower the minimum. He looked around at the situation, saw the group of us with money in hand and agreed to set it at $15. The remaining seats were quickly filled as well.
