Scougs Posted March 14, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2019 Looking for recommendations from someone who has done a Norway/Midnight Sun cruise. I'm booked on the Crown Princess next June (yes, I know, nothing like planning in advance). I fancy splashing out on a helicopter tour in one of the ports. Which one would be the best option - both in terms of the helicopter tour itself, and in terms of missing out on a land tour? Options are: Stavanger - Lysefjord & Pulpit Rock by Helicopter Honningsvag - North Cape by Helicopter Tromso - Tromso Helicopter Adventure Anyone any experience and/or thoughts? Rare Coral Posted March 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 15, 2019 (edited) I did last year's cruise and am booked on this year's cruise and both are hitting Tromso on a Sunday. Not sure about next year. Tromso is pretty closed on Sunday. I did a tour into the country side via van and it was nice. Some were disappointed who stayed in Tromso as not much was open. So Tromso maybe a good port - though I don't know what an aerial view would be like. We had bad weather (very windy/foggy/cold) in Honningsvag/North Cape. I don't think a helicopter would have taken off that day (knowing they are cancelled in Alaska a lot). Stavanger would be pretty from an aerial view. I did like the boat ride in the area. Not sure which would be better (aerial or boat view). You may want to watch the latest Mission Impossible movie as part of the film was filmed at Pulpit Rock and I am guessing has some good aerial views of the area. Sorry - no real experience with helicopters there. Edited March 15, 2019 by Coral
kaisatsu Posted March 16, 2019 #3 Share Posted March 16, 2019 Tromsø. Beautiful mountain scenery in the area around the city. And if it’s a Sunday, I agree it could be a bit quiet in town. Nordkapp and Stavanger are both more hit-and-miss with the weather, and while Pulpit Rock would be a great view, the locals HATE helicopters in the area.
