dacf Posted March 29, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2019 We are looking at booking the Carnival Dream leaving on April 14th (in 2wks) out of New Orleans. This is the best time for us to go away according to our schedules. According to the route, the ship will be in Cozumel on Good Friday. Just a heads up, Cozumel has been a port on many cruises we've done in the past, so it's not a big issue if we don't get off. Has anyone been in Cozumel on Good Friday? Is it possible to go and experience where they celebrate Good Friday? For example watching the procession of someone carrying the cross? Even though we've been to Mexico several times, we've never been during Easter. We would like to experience the Mexican culture during Holy Week or do you think it's best to stay away because of the crowds? Thanks for any help you can offer 🙂
Rare crewsweeper Posted March 29, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 29, 2019 Not sure if there are passion plays or processions in San Miguel. Most likely yes. But these will be silent type processions and dark colors will predominate. I think the San Miguel Church will have one and maybe an early mass. There could also be choirs singing in the plaza as happens in other Mexican cities. In Mexico in general lots of businesses and banks are closed. Beach resorts and restaurants being an exception. Schools are out. And places can be busy.
