Voluntourism in Nassau

I just wanted to share our recent experience with voluntourism in Nassau.  What is voluntourism?  Voluntourism is when you combine volunteering and vacation.

We were recently in Nassau on our cruise, and we booked an excursion through Hope Floats.  Hope Floats connects volunteers with organizations in many cruise ports around the Caribbean.  I am not connected with this organization in any way other than as someone who volunteered through them.

We spent 3 hours of our day at the Bahamas Humane Society (there are other volunteer options as well), washing puppies, walking dogs, and playing with kittens.  We saw some people who are very dedicated to making sure animals are taken care of and loved.

If you can't volunteer, perhaps you can bring supplies to organizations in need.  I have a list of supplies needed by the Bahamas Humane Society, and Cathleen at Hope Floats can help with other locations.

If you are looking for a way to give back on your vacation, consider voluntourism.
