go noles Posted May 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2019 Just realized I can fly nonstop to Gatwick but not Heathrow. Suggestions on transportation from Gatwick to Southampton on a Sunday? Thanks again.
Rare John Bull Posted May 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2019 Definitely not an Uber nor a taxi from the airport rank, not for that sort of distance. Train is normally the best bet, but altho there's a direct train from Gatwick airport to Southampton central station every hour monday thro saturday, there's no direct service on sundays. Best is an hourly service with one change of train. Because it involves two train operators it's not cheap. About £36 pp. Add to that, line maintenance happens on sundays so there's a chance that your train trip will involve a shuttle-bus around any affected part of the line. https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ So for sundays, the bus might be the better bet. About £15 pp, but only a few direct buses per day so whether it's the better bet will depend on your flight arrival time. https://www.nationalexpress.com/en For a private transfer you should pre-book a fixed-rate service. Try www.smithsforairports.com or www.westquaycars.com or www.aquacars.co.uk or www.blackberrycars.com Expect to pay around £100 to £125 JB
sddsddean Posted May 6, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 6, 2019 Bearing in mind the Sunday 'no direct train' problem, could you fly in the day before? Stop at a relatively cheap hotel in Southampton (eg Premier Inn) and, depending on your timings, you could do a side trip to Salisbury, Winchester or Portsmouth (there is not a lot to see in Southampton unless you like looking at docks!). Just a thought. Simon
