Hi Trevor

I was born in England and have been here for 35 years. Thought it was about time I took the plunge. And whilst I consider myself to be Australian in so many ways...........I still go for England in the cricket(sorry).

But I'll certainly be going for Australia in the soccer world cup!!!

BTW what do you do for a living to be working on a public holiday?

Gee, I was going to say "can you get me job there" but it's a little too far to travel from Sydney's south-west suburbs!! Where exactly in QLD are you ( you don't have to answer that if you don't want to)?

How many of you are travelling on your cruise?

It's fine to ask anything :)

I live in Rockhampton. There's two of us going on the cruise, both first timers, and I think I convinced a friend and his family to join us today :). I don't know about my friend, but I'm very excited, I just can't seem to get enough about cruising. The other day, I even pulled out my old video tapes of BBC's "The Cruise", loved that show.

I don't remember that show. I used to watch The Love Boat though. I can't blame you for being excited and it will be here before you know it. I'm going with my hubby & 3 kids and we booked in Oct '04. 17 months in advance and we are now down to 67 days. I can't wait and I can't believe how quickly it has come around.

Rocky's nice, get over to Great Keppel very often?

The Cruise was a documentry style, fly on the wall look at different people working on Celebrity "Galaxy". It was recorded way back when that Galaxy was brand new, 96/97 I think (don't quote me :)). The main person it followed was a Yorkshire singer called Jane MacDonald, they followed her from her first cruise as a headliner to when she finished up and got married. The programme also followed othe staff, from casino to dancers and a few others as well as featuring some passengers, it's an entertaining show to watch. It was broadcast on Channel 10 in 2000 (or thereabouts). If you like, I could probably organise a copy of the series for you on to DVD.

Rocky is nice (most of the time :)) I don't get over to Great Keppel Island very often. Like any local, you tend to take things like that for granted.

Gee, I thought I had a long time to wait, and I only booked 2 weeks ago. How on earth can you contain your excitement for so long?

I can't believe I don't remember that show. Would be good to see. I am also from Yorkshire. Shame you don't get to Great Keppel very often, looked like a nice place when I went (1983) but I understand what you mean about taking things for granted.

Did you say this is your first cruise? You'll love it. It's almost 20 years since I cruised and have had a few holidays in the meantime (including Disneyland) but I still say a cruise is the best holiday you can have. You can do lots or nothing at all and I plan to do not very much (trivia, bingo). As I said to my husband the other night "I'm looking forward to deciding what to EAT not what to COOK". That's enough for me.

I watched The Cruise and it was good. I would like them to repeat it here.

Karmac, the Love Boat is on its way up the coast to Auckland I think at the moment, I would have to check, but I know it is coming in at some stage and I think it is soon. I am going to go have a look at it.

Just sent you an email Trevor.

Ahh, Karen, Trevor, enjoyed reading your conversation:) Been to Kepple twice - first time for honeymoon, second time for a second honeymoon. Great place. Was very disappointed when they changed it to Under 35's, so thankfully they've taken it back to the way it was, open to all ages.

Have a great Aussie Day everyone.:)

Hi Kerri and happy Australia Day, I hope it's been a good one for you so far :). I'm still at work, 3 hours to go.

Great Keppel is a nice place to go for the day to relax, but I guess it pales in comparison to the islands I'll get to visit on my cruise. So looking forward to it. You'd be happy to hear that Contiki no longer operates the GKI Resort. It's now part of the Accor group and is being run as a family destination. I haven't been for a couple of years, before it was even Contiki, so I can't tell you what it's like there now, sorry :o .

Hi everyone

Happy Australia Day.

Just had an interesting experience reading the posts in this thread. I have always counted myself as an Aussie - I became a naturalised Aussie in 1984 when I was 13 - I was also born in Yorkshire - Middlesbrough!!

I have also just read Painter's post and find it ironic that she lives in Buderim - my brother also lives in Buderim!!

Today my plans are to relax with my family - and read the posts on Cruise Critic he he he when I can get away!!

Unfortunately I cannot get anywhere near a beach - which would be lovely as its so hot at the moment. I live in Katherine, NT and the nearest beach is Darwin and at this time of year the beaches are a no go zone with the jellyfish.

SO whatever you are doing this Australia day - enjoy, relax and remember its great to be an Aussie!!

love rach
