Doglovertoo Posted May 30, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2019 We depart this week from Southampton on a Baltic cruise on Oceania. We’re spending one.night in London precruise and wanted to purchase wine to take onboard with us. Does anyone have a suggestion of a place with a good selection and reasonable prices? Thank you. Flatbush Flyer Posted May 30, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2019 Good wine? Good selection? Hedonism Wine in Mayfair.
helpthejuggler Posted May 30, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2019 London is a big area to be searching with only 1 night in the city. A specific location would help give convenient options. Reasonable prices needs a little more guidance, there will be a wide choice at most price points.
SuiteTraveler Posted May 30, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2019 (edited) You can easily buy wine in Southampton: Marks & Spencer at the West Quay Mall in Southampton https://www.marksandspencer.com/MSStoreDetailsView?storeId=10151&langId=-24&SAPStoreId=4721 or ASDA near the port in Southampton https://storelocator.asda.com/store/southampton No need to drag wine from London with these options in Southampton. ASDA usually has a more limited selection than Marks & Spencer but ASDA is usually cheaper. If you want to buy wine in London, Harrods Food Hall offers a good selection at reasonable prices: https://www.harrods.com/en-gb/in-store-services/food/wine-and-spirits?icid=foodandwine_hero-header_module-23_element-primary-links_wine-spirits Edited May 30, 2019 by SuiteTraveler
John Bull Posted May 30, 2019 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2019 If you're travelling to Southampton by train, Majestic Wine Stores is right opposite Southampton central station forecourt. Wide selection, sensible prices, knowledgeable staff. Note - they used to have a six-bottle minimum but dispensed with that a few years ago, you can buy by the bottle. If travelling by National Express bus, ASDA is opposite Southampton coach station - access is via an elevator in the multi-storey carpark opposite, ask station staff to point it out. ASDA is a grocery store (part of the Walmart group) - don't expect knowledgeable staff, but a decent selection and competitive price. If travelling by private transfer, either of those options or leave it to the driver if he/she is a local. Or suggest Tesco in Winnall, Winchester. Exit the M3 motorway at junct 9, 3rd exit off the roundabout (traffic island) & it's immediately on your left. Large grocery store, wide selection, competitive prices but again no knowledgeable staff. If traveling on ship's transfer bus it goes direct to the cruise terminal, so buy in London. If travelling by private helicopter send your butler to buy the stuff. JB
