beachbum53 Posted June 11, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2019 (edited) Tortola will be a new port for us on our upcoming cruise. I have a few questions. We're considering a beach day at Cane Garden Bay. Is there a place to change clothes when we get there? Approximately how long does it take to get there (and back to the cruise ship ) by taxi? Is it fairly easy to get a taxi to go back to the ship? Roughly how much money should we take? Is $50.00 too little? Is $100.00 too much? Since Tortola is a BVI territory, do we need to exchange U.S. dollars for British pounds, or are U.S. dollars accepted? Thank-you for any information you can provide. beachbum53 Posted June 11, 2019 Author #2 Share Posted June 11, 2019 (Almost forgot to ask.) We'll be in Tortola in early March. What are the water temps. like at that time? Warm, or too cold to swim?
blue_water Posted June 12, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2019 (edited) I must have posted right as you deleted this post in the other thread... We’ve not used the changing rooms and public restrooms in CGB but you can change there. There are different places to rent lounges and have drinks and lunch. Taxis are readily available at the dock and at CGB and a shared safari taxi is ~$8pp each way. You will see several safari taxis dropping folks who booked through the ship but it’s nicer going on your own, either with the shared safari taxi or a private one... As far as how much cash to carry, we like Myett’s for lunch, and as an example of prices (in US$) you will pay $4.50 for beer, $7 for wine, $9 for painkiller, bushwhacker, or rum punch, and $12 - $16 for a great fish sandwich or burger. And of course lounge/umbrella rentals are extra. So take enough cash, or just use a card. Water temps are very nice at latitude 18 throughout the year, and you should enjoy great weather in early March - enjoy! beachbum53 Posted June 12, 2019 Author #4 Share Posted June 12, 2019 Thank-you blue_water. Looks like the prices are about average for a tourist area. Any idea how much the rental is for lounge chairs and umbrella?
