Weight limit

I have been on only a handful of Carnival cruises.  I have yet to see or hear about any size or weight issues.  I'm sure for longer cruises we have brought luggage that exceeded 50 pounds.    Unless someone goes way overboard, I think this is a non-issue on any cruise line.

BTW, referring to some of those 5 year old posts, I couldn't care less about opinions on how much or little I pack.  My only hope is I don't have to listen to them sermonize during the cruise.

Remember that most luggage is stowed under the bed. You do not want a lot  of luggage and extra large bags that cannot fit.

We sometimes store under the bed, but most times not preferring instead to put them in the closet.  It is a good point if you want the bags out of the way. We have encountered times when the luggage would not slide under the bed.

I think one of the advantages of large clam shell style luggage is it can be slid under the bed in the open position.

With the more relaxed cruising style now a days, I use the sports jacket for both elegant nights (7 day cruise) one dress shirt and two different ties since we change right after dinner.  In days past, I would have a different shirt, tie and pants for each night  and for Formal Nights I would carry two different suits.  The less restrictive Elegant Night dress code helps me pack less.  For dinner I carry 5 shirts, one dress shirt, a sports coat and 2 pair of pants.  I also, carry 2 bathing suits, 6 tee shirts and 3 pair of shorts along with underwear and socks.  I also take 3 sets of footwear, a shoe, sneakers and a water shoe.  In the pass we found we would take home a lot of clothing we never would wear.

Do the number of dress up days vary by cruise length? Going on 10 day cruise and was only planning on one.

Yes, your cruise would have at least 2, possibly another if it's a Journeys cruise.

From Carnival's website:

On certain special nights, our main dining rooms celebrate our Cruise Elegant festivities and we invite guests to enjoy a special night out in a sharp and chic way.

  • 5 days or shorter cruises will have one Cruise Elegant evening
  • 6 days or longer cruises will have two Cruise Elegant evenings

On longer cruises, the first Cruise Elegant evening is scheduled for the second or third evening of the cruise.  Depending on itinerary, the next Cruise Elegant evening is the second or third evening prior to the end of the cruise.

Carnival Journeys and Holidays

  • Carnival Journeys cruises feature a Throwback Sea Day in which we go back in time to relive the ‘80s during the day and the true elegance of formal evening and the original Captain’s Celebration at night. Guidelines for elegant evening apply, and formal gowns and suits/tuxedos are encouraged.
  • Carnival knows how to celebrate! Feel free to bring a special outfit for our “Ugly Sweater Contest” in December, “Frightfully Fun” Halloween cruises, or to show your team spirit when there are big sporting events. Please note that costumes with full masks are prohibited, but half masks are allowed.

I'll usually do a week's cruise with 1 checked suitcase and a backpack- though the backpack is mainly just for electronics.  The one thing I still haven't figured out how to cut back on is tshirts, without doing laundry.  On a 7 day cruise, plus a day or two in the home port, I'll usually go through 12-13 tshirts and really, I could use a few more but I get tired of packing them.  I'm pretty active on our cruises, both on the ship and excursions, and finding myself wanting a fresh tshirt fairly often.  I also end up taking lots of showers and that contributes.  But, I could roll them up pretty small if I needed to fit them into a smaller bag.  Since I fly Southwest, and don't have to pay to check my bag, I don't worry about it.  Though I'm sure if anyone ever saw my suitcase they'd wonder about the ridiculous number of tshirts compared to everything else in the bag.

I don't wear cotton T-shirts much anymore (Sweat too much and they stay soaked). I LOVE the Dri Fit stuff from WalMart. Rolls up super small, no wrinkles.  I use the handicap shower in the gym and go in clothes and all. Wash me and my clothes.  Roll clothes in towel and you could practiclly wear them back to your room.  I take a fresh set though and trade out for the next day.  For variety I use swim trunks as shorts except for dining in MDR.

For fancy dining, I will go with a traditional button down cotton shirt and slacks.  You only wear that a few hours so it works for a couple of sittings or specialty dining.

Oh, boy, how much time do you have to read the list?🤣

Here goes, off the top of my head (disclaimer: some of these items were added to the list after cutbacks years ago, so newer Carnival cruisers might not know that they were ever included with a Carnival cruise; also, some of these items weren't necessarily included before, but are on my list to try to make up for 😞 the results of cutbacks that I have experienced):

My Carnival Cutback Packing List

  • king size foam mattress pad
  • assortment of good quality teas
  • chocolates to leave on my kids' beds after turn-down
  • good hand soap
  • lotion
  • individually wrapped butter pats
  • individually wrapped plastic drinking straws
  • Sugar In The Raw packets
  • small carton of heavy cream
  • cleaning supplies including Clorox wipes, bleach tablets, etc.)
  • food/drink tray
  • drink umbrellas (maybe - I haven't decided yet, but a boat drink isn't much of a boat drink without an umbrella, and my kids love them, too)

I know there's more.  This is just all I can think of right now.

I do seem to remember elemis bath products being provided in all cabins at one time, but now it seems it is just in the suites and Havana cabins.
