Private car vs. Private Journeys

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I’ve been researching excursions and have found both private car/van excursions on the cruise planner and a separate link to Private Journeys, which honestly sounds like the same thing as the excursions.  Can someone help me understand the difference between them? If it helps, I’m looking to use one or the other in St Petersburg next year.

Thanks!

Michelle

Sure!

Here’s the Private Journeys link: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/privatejourneys/request/

And here’s the details from the private car excursion through Royal:

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Customized Guided Tour: Choose your own itinerary and explore the city on a private small-group tour alongside an English-speaking guide.
  • Independent Exploration: Visit distinguished museums, see stunning Russian Orthodox cathedrals, shop for souvenirs, or enjoy a tasty lunch (time permitting).
  • Private Escort: Sightsee around the city as you ride in the comfort of a private vehicle.

Thanks!

Which one is cheaper? If you don't want to visit the Ports of Call board (look at tour operators) and arrange your own private tour, then I would go with whichever one costs less.

Hi! From what I've been able to piece together, the private journey is more expensive, but I'll get a more personalized tour experience.  Although with the private car, that still does allow for some personalization on the tour.  I think I'm going to have to really chew on this...

We were in St. Petersburg about 6 years ago (a large private group). We used SPB-TOURS and they were awesome. You need a visa to disembark the ship and their tour ticket is just that. We actually used them for several stops on our Baltic Isles cruise and I would recommend them to anyone who wants to have a great experience.

I looked in private journeys when we were heading to Puerto Rico for the first time. The minimum was a 4 hour tour and would cost us $600.00!

Plus they don't drive through old San Juan due to the narrow streets so we would have to walk that area.

Also, the service agent was trying to get me to up it to a full day tour!

Needless to say, it was WAY to much money.

We ended up doing a tour on our own with a very nice cab driver we met in town for an agreed upon price that was much much cheaper than private journeys offered.
