Night arrival in San Juan

We are flying into San Juan the night before our cruise in November.  Our flight arrives at 9:15 PM. Should we be concerned with safety in getting to our hotel (Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel and Casino) at night in San Juan? What would be the best option for transportation to hotel?

The airport has a pretty organized taxi set up for transportation from the airport. There is a stand outside of baggage claim and the dispatcher will give you a slip with the price before you get into the cab. We have never had any issues.

You should be fine, the unrest that’s currently in San Juan shouldn’t be an issue by the time you sail in November.  I would grab a taxi, I don’t believe Uber is available there. I’ve always felt safe in SJ, many cruisers departed at 11pm and I wandered around the port area without issue.

Uber is available in San Juan - though I don't think drivers are allowed to pick up from the airport. We have, however; taken uber TO the airport.

In Nov 2018 we were able to take Uber to the airport, but the app would not load at the airport. So we took taxis away from the airport.

Taxis are fine - there should be no safety issues at all.

San Juan is no different than any other large city.  Just be aware and stay in public and well lit areas at night.  Same advice anywhere really.

We used "The Limo People" for our transfers in San Juan - they picked us up at the airport for a transfer to El Convento, then from El Convento to the port and then port to airport.  They were fantastic.  On time, nice drivers and clean, modern cars.  We will use them again for our cruise in December.
