Does the Ocean Medallion replace the cruise card?

My DW and I are going to be on the Crown Princess in February, 2020.  This will be our first cruise on a ship with the Ocean Medallion available.

 

Does it replace the old cruise cards?  

 

What are the advantages & disadvantages of the OM compared to the cruise cards?

Yes the medallion replaces the cruise card. It unlocks your cabin door, you use for payment at the shops, bars, upgraded restaurants, etc. If you download the app ocean now to that app you can order drinks and have them delivered to you along with certain food items and merchandise as well. That's supposed to be more of a hands-free interactive medallion. Check out the ocean Medallion threads for more information.
