Houmas House & Plantation

We had Oak Alley and other plantations down as a day trip for our NOLA stay.

We are now considering cutting NOLA one night short and driving ourselves(we are heading to Texas) through

the plantations at our leisure and staying the night at Houmas before heading to The Woodlands and San Antonio.

Has anyone stayed there or can recommend The Inn at Houmas House for a night stay?

Houma is pretty rural-- wasn't very impressed. I've been through there doing a similar drive but did not stay the night so I couldn't really help you there. I do remember thinking that I was glad that I wasn't staying the night. It added a little more than an hour onto our trip to Houston which was annoying (my friend had something there he wanted to see which is why we diverted off the normal route).

If you want to do Oak Alley you can easily just turn north and head through Baton Rouge. The whole drive is doable in one day if you want to spend some quality time in the car.
