firstimer2009 Posted August 25, 2019 #54 Share Posted August 25, 2019 (edited) Cruise Mapper website shows the Star today parked in a forward berth at the port so it's not blocked by another ship like it has been the past few weeks. Let's hope this holds true for the rest of our sailings. BTW, I have many in-laws on Celebrity Infinity right now and they were delayed leaving Venice yesterday because of the same issues. Slovenia is their first stop though so they could leave late last night and not be impacted today. Edited August 25, 2019 by firstimer2009

This makes me so happy! I'm also hoping that they will find a way to make it work. It looks like such a beautiful port and I'd hate to miss it! Rare ollienbertsmum Posted August 26, 2019 #57 Share Posted August 26, 2019 Fingers crossed. But I am also not holding my breath - I don't want to be disappointed. Kotor looks lovely.
MNcruisingcouple Posted August 26, 2019 #58 Share Posted August 26, 2019 My wife and I just got off the Star on Sunday. We missed Kotor and were looking forward to it. The explanation given to us, directly from the captain of the ship, was that NCL finds out 4 days in advance of sailing where they are in the rotation to leave Venice. Those that book directly with NCL get an email with the adjustment. We booked with a travel agent so we found out on CC. The previous posters who said they use 3 tugboats are correct. I watched them from the pool deck escort us around the edge of Venice. It took close to an hour which is what they schedule that much time between ship leaving. Just a note for others on this cruise, Santorini is crazy busy and we heard directly from a NCL person that they tried to suggest to the officials of Santorini to regulate the number of ships in port but so far they have refused. So when the lines are long for the cable car to come back to the ship, be mad at the officials of Santorini rather than NCL.
firstimer2009 Posted August 26, 2019 #59 Share Posted August 26, 2019 I watched the departures this past Sunday (8/25) and it seems there was only 30 minutes between departure. Maybe they had an extra set of tugboats working because of all the ships in port. If the cruise ship companies were smart, they would have pooled money together and helped pay for another set of tugboats. Maybe that did happen. jvswine Posted September 1, 2019 #60 Share Posted September 1, 2019 the Star leaving today 9/1/2019 from Venice is going to Bar and NOT Kotor. Hopefully the cruise I'm on next week will go to Kotor...………………………………...

It's 9pm there and the first one, MSC Opera, just exited the lagoon. At least 4 big cruise ships are still in port including Star. Maybe some tankers or something took priority tugging today. We are on the 9/22 sailing but leave for Venice in two weeks. I will hope the best for all of us.
jvswine Posted September 1, 2019 #62 Share Posted September 1, 2019 September (first Sunday of September): Regata Storica (Historical regatta). This annual boat race, a test of the gondolieri's mettle, takes place on the Grand Canal. Boats are decorated, spirits run high and the competition is fierce. I believe this is why the ships were late leaving...…..
wxnerdz Posted September 1, 2019 #63 Share Posted September 1, 2019 I have no idea if it's a coincidence or not but the Star has gone to Bar every other week for the past six weeks or so.

Actually the Star did make it to Kotor last Monday (8/26) but it was late getting in around 5pm. Not certain if people were able to get off the ship. At least they were able to see the sail in which is supposed to be beautiful.

Do you mean Bari? Not trying to correct your spelling but I am going on the 15th September sailing. Bari is on my wish list but if I am going I want to be prepared. No, the Star has been making a technical stop in Bar, Montenegro when it skips Kotor.

We made it to Kotor and were able to get off the ship. We were off the tender just after 4 and enjoyed a shortened excursion to the blue cave. And, yes, sailing into Kotor was beautiful! Rare ollienbertsmum Posted September 5, 2019 #70 Share Posted September 5, 2019 My TA gave me notification that my 15 September trip would not be making Kotor - we are making a technical stop in Bar. I am glad that we are informed in advance. For me communication is everything, so for this well done N C L. I now now have Kotor on my wish list. I do want a second trip to the Adriatic ( I think second or third cruises In an area are better). I am sorry for those who hoped for Kotor and will miss it. firstimer2009 Posted September 5, 2019 #71 Share Posted September 5, 2019 We are on the 22nd sailing a week later. If they are doing an every other week switch off for this port there is hope our cruise might make it. I guess we will find out soon enough. serifelogue Posted September 6, 2019 #73 Share Posted September 6, 2019 Sounds like it's missing Kotor every other week. That would mean our Oct 13th sailing will not go 😞

NCL is not obligated to provide additional compensation. However, they may provide some very modest OBC if enough complain. They should not charge you port fees at Bar if you are not able to get off. We went on this itinerary last year and thought that Kotor was the least favorite port. Yes, it is beautiful to sail into port, but the port itself was lacking. We did get the port fees refunded … $13 in cash on the ship.
