lolabarola Posted August 21, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2019 Hi we’re on a cruise with Princess, arriving at Puntarenas on 9 November. The most popular tour on tripadvisor seems to be to Isla Tortuga, 90 mins from Puntarenas by catamaran and 5 hours ashore. It’s an appealing alternative to the rainforest tours etc which entail quite long periods on a coach and are often reviewed as disappointing - over touristy, little wildlife seen etc The island trip isn’t offered as a ship excursion; maybe there’s a good reason for that! Has anyone been on the tour?

Has anyone been on the tour? Did you do this tour? I, too, can't find any reviews on cruise critic concerning doing this excursion from a stop in Costa Rica (versus being there and not having to worry about boarding a ship)

CarolGS Posted January 16 #5 Share Posted January 16 I went a few years ago. The boat ride over was very pleasant. We saw a few dolphins on the way there and a lovely sunset on the way back. The beach is pretty. Some people were snorkling but I did not join them.
redrum42 Posted March 31 #6 Share Posted March 31 I booked the full day, small group tour through Turismo Maritimopacifico tours for Saturday Mar 30, but received an email the night before, recommending that I cancel the tour. As it was the Easter long weekend, the huge influx of locals going to the island made them delay getting onto the island till 3:30 that day, giving customers very little time if they wanted to get back to their ship on time. I was glad they let me know this situation, and cancelled for full refund. Hopefully try it another time. I ended up strolling to the end of the pier that day, with no plans, and a street vendor offered a van tour to monkey house, crocodile river tour and Punterenas drive tour. $25 for tour, with $30 for river tour. Great value, and had a great time. Don't remember the name of the company.
