Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We sailed the Wind Spirit in January. In my opinion the interior still looked fine. Biggest issues were 1) the loud engine/stabilizer noise that was especially bad midship, even on deck 2. Earplugs were necessary to sleep. I have my doubts that this will be corrected during drydock. Advice: unlike on most ships, you want to choose a cabin as far forward as possible. And 2) the outside stairway leading down to the tenders/zodiacs was rickety and the railing wobbled. Adds a little more sense of adventure than I prefer.
  2. Thank you for each of your replies. While I love a firm mattress, my travel companion needs one that is soft and cushy as possible. Our travel agent spoke to Windstar today and Windstar noted that they will try to accommodate him but cannot guarantee anything. So reading between the lines it would appear that they do have a limited supply of mattress toppers or egg crates but possibly not enough for every guest who requests one. Our cruise is still six weeks out so I hope that his request is early enough on the list to receive one.
  3. I went a few years ago. The boat ride over was very pleasant. We saw a few dolphins on the way there and a lovely sunset on the way back. The beach is pretty. Some people were snorkling but I did not join them.
  4. Has anyone ever requested and received extra bed padding or an egg crate on the Wind Spirit? Thank you
  5. We were on Liberty for B2B right after Thanksgiving. We ate in in the Main dining room 1st 4 nights which I would rate as good to very good. We then bought the UDP package for the last 3 nights. Other than Chops, which was excellent, we were very disappointed with both the Italian and Mexican restaurant. Sabor had great guacamole but everthing after that was terrible. So much so that we complained to the manager and he arranged for us to return to Chops later that night. So, if we were to sail on Liberty again we would only dine in the MDR and Chops, with perhaps stopping in at Sabor for Margueritas and guacamole as an appetizer.
  6. We also booked throught VTG and I've received Royal Up offers.
  7. Yes, intended for carry-ons only. However on our recent Liberty ots sailing I asked three seperate staff members where to drop off my carry-on and none knew the answer. I ended up bringing it to the cabin myself. I think the problem was we had a 2pm boarding and the special Chops menu in the MDR was already closed. I believe that is where we should have been able to drop our carry-on luggage.
  8. Hi. OP here. I truly enjoyed and appreciate all of the points of view and effort taken to respond to this question. Also, my apologies to anyone whom I may have offended with the phrase "wheelchair bound" - I will use the term "wheelchair user" going forward. If anyone is curious as to the outcome, my travel agent did call Celebrity, and explained exactly what I've described in my OP. The cabin was released for me to book. However, after much consideration, I chose instead to save myself $4000 and book a standard aqua class cabin available three weeks earlier. Cheers.
  9. Thanks for your response. The cabin category appeared as available on the website of an online booking agency. It was only when I inquired that I was told that it was an accessible cabin.
  10. We are hoping to sail in February. The sailing we are interested in is nearly sold out. The only cabins left are several inside cabins (some standard and some accessible) and two accessible Sky Suites. We are not interested in the inside cabins as I am somewhat claustrophobic. Due to old injuries I sometimes require a cane but otherwise do not require a wheelchair. Do I have a moral obligation to not book this sailing and leave the cabins to wheelchair bound cruisers?

  12. Thank you all for your helpful responses. We will be in Nassau and CocoCay.
  13. My friend will need to deliver 2 business related webcasts while sailing Liberty of the Seas. How reliable is the Voom Surf and Stream service? Also, is there a business center onboard from which he can work if necessary? Thanks.
  14. Quite the scandal! I guess nothing and no one is beyond the reach of politics. But lucky me....the fireworks have been rescheduled for this weekend when we'll be in Budepest prior to our Danube cruise. I wonder if our hotel has a rooftop bar!
  15. We are scheduled for the August 28 sailing on the Amalea on the Danube from Budapest to Vilshoffen. We have not heard of any changes. It looks like this week's sailing, which is identical, has been keeping to its schedule so far.
