Balaena Posted August 21, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2019 Wondered if anyone has done the New Orleans riverboat cruise along the Mississippi. We would like to do late morning cruise and wondered if it would be better to do the ships excursion or book it ourselves in advance. Thing is last time we were there the queue was considerable and wondered if by booking in advance we would get ushered through rather more quickly. It seems and I may be wrong, that those taking the excursion from the ship had to join a long queue to get their ticket, to get onboard. yorkshirephil Posted August 21, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 21, 2019 Difficult to answer as the procedure for getting off the ship on the first day can vary, when we docked in February we disembarked by deck, as we were fairly high up we didn't get off till almost lunchtime. Some people who booked tours hoping to get off early missed their tour. A few of the Mississippi cruises were cancelled because it was damp and quite foggy, especially on the water, the dinner cruises went ahead but the boats stayed tied up. I think basically it is a case of picking what you think is best for you.
Balaena Posted August 23, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted August 23, 2019 Interesting, last time weather was lovely and we whizzed though immigration also there for two days. Question is for anyone who might have done the daytime riverboat cruise, is it better to go on an excursion or, under your own steam. Not trying to save money, rather just avoid the long queues. Thanks Bal
