Will Gem race Dorian to Canada on Friday or stay put in the safe waters of Bermuda ?

.

Based on the latest forecast at 8 am today, Dorian will  be in the vicinity of the Outer Banks of North Carolina at 2 am Friday...nowhere near Boston. 2 am Saturday in the Atlantic off the coast of NJ.

Only a fool would proclaim with certainty where a hurricane will be that far in advance, but based on the current forecast there would be nothing preventing the Gem from returning to Boston on schedule on Friday. The question is more where the Gem's cruise that departs Boston on Friday September 6 will be going.

That would make for a bumpy ride on the tender boats into Bar Harbor @ 8 AM Sat.

Way too far in advance for them to make any announcements. Back in 2016 we were on the Dawn doing the same itinerary with a hurricane coming up the coast. As we exited the St Lawrence Seaway the winds picked up and they closed off the upper decks outside. The main hurricane was well south of us, but the winds we felt that night were from it. Yes the captain was worried about not only getting us back to Boston, but also his last trip to Bermuda the following week.

Dorian is being very difficult to predict  - you would think that moving so slow it would be easy to predict its path .

One year ago this week, pretty much same issue.  We returned from Bermuda on the Dawn, water glassy smooth.  As soon as she docked in Boston it was announced to the new boarding passengers that the scheduled trip back to Bermuda was off.  A hurricane aimed at Bermuda.  Dawn left that afternoon with a left turn up the coast to Canada.  Hurricane season.   You don't never know.

Gem is underway.

20’ + following seas offshore should make for a memorable ride.😐

Yes indeed.  The north Atlantic is not always at it's best this time of year  and this storm will not help at all !!!!!  It will be interesting to hear some reports !

From what I’ve heard the Gem will leave today. The itinerary has eliminated Bar Harbor for tomorrow and added Portland in its place (7 - 3 Saturday). I’m sure this could change.

Your wright!

Gem is safe in Portland.

I wonder if Dorian wreaked enough havoc so the Gem couldn’t dock. The current weather is fine and seas don’t look too bad.

Halifax had some bad damage and many without power !!!
