We did not do the cheers package, We could not justify the cost. We did the 5 day on the Dream back in July. Wife & I had as much as we wanted every day. And the total of what we spent, according to our settlement sheet, was $197.60. Honestly, I could have another drink or even 2, every day, but that would still not even come close to breaking even had we purchased the Cheers pkg.

Something doesn't seem right. 197.00 divided by approx 7.00 per drink = 28 drinks over 5 days. 5 1/2 drinks a day divided by 2 pax isn't as much as you wanted, unless you are a very, very light drinker.

If one drinks that little , NO it's not even close to being worth it. But it also isn't relevant to having Cheers. Cheers is for those that drink 7-8 a day or more.

You failed to take into consideration that I had many more drinks per day than my wife. That $197.00 did not include gratuities. While she had only 3 maybe 4 drinks per day, I had maybe 4 or 5. And my statements are very relevant to this conversation. This thread is about 'should we or shouldn't we' purchase cheers, and both sides must be considered. I'm sure you will agree with me on that point.

I did take into consideration you may have had more. You can't only have spent 197.00 with your numbers.

So together you had 7-9 drinks a day between the 2 of you. These are your numbers. Low end drinks are 7.00 each ( not including gratuity)

7 drinks = 49.00 x 5 days = 245.00

9 drinks = 63.00 x 5 days = 315.00

You couldn't have only spent what you say. Things just don't add up.

Cheers does make sense if combined a couple drinks about 14 total a day. It doesn't matter who drinks more the husband or wife.

Plus we haven't even mentioned the non-alcoholic drinks that are included in Cheers, which many pax consume in a day.

Still on the Valor, getting off in a few hours.   I purchased Cheers and used it 50%.

Not Carnival fault but my allergies and another prior medical issue came up so had to limit due to medication.

Sailing in December and might try again.

I loved getting coffee and sparkling water no issues.   The times I did get a drink love trying new also.

If wasn't sick could see making or close to limit.

But this is mine personal opinion

Your comment may be true if you drink beer like your name implies. However, Cheers works for me based on drinking 4 drinks a day. I love the Alchemy Bar, and always have at least 4 drinks there every night at $10.95 each. I always drink at least one bottle of Pellagrino at dinner at $4.50 a bottle. Throughout the day I drink at least 6 bottles of water and/or Perrier. Based on these drinks alone, Cheers saves me money.

So many get hung up on just the alcohol, non-alcoholic drinks can add up.

Lol not a beer drinker, just worked in the beer business.

Cheers saved us 450.00

And love the “Deal Closer” at Achlemy

Good point about the non-alcoholic drinks. I usually only drink beer at home or when we go out locally. However, I  expand my drink range when I am on a cruise, mainly with Alchemy drinks and the Sangria Swirl.

You had 18-20 drinks between the two of you over 5 days, that's about 1/3 of the way to breaking even with Cheers. When you only consume  about 1.8 drinks per person per day, Cheers is not for you.

First time carnival cruiser so please bare with me. Does the price of Cheers ever go below $51.95 a day?

No.

Yes....but only if you purchase with 10% discounted Carnival gift cards through AARP or Allstate, which there are multiple  threads on CC to explain details.

I don’t view this as a math question, but a what makes my cruise more enjoyable.

Downside of not buying:  Every time I buy a drink I will notice and feel slightly guilty about the price.

Downside  of buy:  I will be determined not only to get my money’s worth but to absolutely maximize the value.

This!  I don't disagree with the opinions above on the specific situation of OP.  But in general, I think Cheers is only partially a financial decision, but also a "vacation" decision.  IMHO, there are times it's a great idea to do (despite the price), and others where it's NOT a good idea (again, regardless of the price).  For me, it depends on the type of cruise, length, ports, excursion plans, family members cruising, etc.  Consider the price, but also consider the bigger picture and decide what is right for YOU on THIS cruise.  Have a great cruise either way!

We have gotten into the habit of buying it.  It is expensive.  However, the ability to be able to order ANY drink, at any time, without wondering what the bill is going to be at the end of the cruise has been wonderful.  The unlimited non-alcohol drinks is a savior.  My DH loves his coffee.  The ability to order any fancy coffee he wants, and as much as he wants, is terrific.  Being able to order a cappuccino with dessert at dinner (which was free once upon a time) is lovely.  In addition, we have the ability to sample new drinks without worrying about ordering something and then having to pay for something (with tip) that we don't care for.  We especially love it with the Alchemy Bar.  We have been able to try so many amazing drinks, on and off menu, and never once had to worry about the bill.  It's a personal choice, but we enjoy being able to order anything we want, at any time, and not having a bill at the end of the cruise.

Personally I wouldn't.  I am on a 4 day out of Galveston in January....We have the drinks on us while in the Casino, and Nachi Cocom already paid for where we will be most of one day.  Plus can't have the first day in Galveston.  Just doesn't seem worth it if you are planning to be off the ship the 3 port days and first day out of Galveston.  There are 3 of us and we will each bring our bottle of wine when boarding as well as taking advantage of the Steak House the first night where we will get our complimentary bottle.
