Finding Shade - Mariner or Navigator

I'm looking at a quick Caribbean getaway on the Mariner or Navigator. Is there any chance of finding shade while on deck that is a lounger and not at a table, sitting at the bar or in the solarium? On Ovation the only shade was in the solarium, is it the same thing?

The Solarium has loungers in the shade, and the Solarium on both Mariner and Navigator is open to the elements, not under glass.  So like the main pool deck, without all the noise.

I believe there are also some loungers in the shade on the main pool deck.

The outside edges of the pool deck and Solarium are all covered by the deck above.

On sea days, loungers can be hard to find in the shade due to chair hogs, but if you set a timer, you can have a pool attendant remove someone's towel and left flip flop from a lounger after 30 minutes.

Not sure if this will factor into your decision, but for the last year the USnews Travel page has named Mariner the #2 ship in Royal’s fleet.  It being so old, I’m surprised by this ranking.

If it truly merits the #2 award, that alone might help you choose.
