Whoey Posted February 1, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2006 Hi, Does anyone know a recent exchange rate for Australian Dollars (Aud) to Vanuatu Vatu (VuV) on Pacific Sun or another ship ? Just wondering if it might be worthwhile to convert some shopping money here in Aus before departing cheers
jessica3152 Posted February 1, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2006 P&O doesn't convert AUD to Vatu on AUD to Pacific Francs for New Caledonia. You don't need Vatu as AUD is accepted everywhere in Vanuatu as long as notes aren't too large.

You could still buy (and sell afterwards) CPFs on Pacific Sun in June. You definetly need CPFs for Noumea, unless you are going to put EVERYTHING on credit card, but at Isle of Pines you can use either CPF or AUD (again as long as it's small denominations). And don't rely solely on credit cards - we tried using our credit card - with plenty of credit - in Noumea and it was declined, but later in the cruise we used it and it was fine. Kym I had my credit card declined while on the Sun, tried it the next day and it was fine, the Pursur said it could have just been a Glitch with the Satellite not communicating with the bank. Kiwi Kruzer Posted February 1, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 1, 2006 Australian dollars are widely accepted.Does anyone know if they are using Euro's in Noumea now? Here is a link to a cheat sheet. Whenever I travel ,I print one out for each currency and put it in my wallet http://www.oanda.com/convert/cheatsheet It comes out like this.Very handy when shoppng as you can at least compare prices to home. FXCheatSheet Vanuatu Vatu (VUV) to Australian Dollar (AUD) Interbank rate for Wednesday, February 1, 2006 VUV AUD VUV AUD VUV AUD 10 = 0.12 100 = 1.16 1000 = 12 20 = 0.23 150 = 1.74 2000 = 23 30 = 0.35 200 = 2.32 3000 = 35 40 = 0.46 250 = 2.89 4000 = 46 50 = 0.58 300 = 3.47 5000 = 58 60 = 0.69 350 = 4.05 6000 = 69 70 = 0.81 400 = 4.63 7000 = 81 80 = 0.93 450 = 5.21 8000 = 93 90 = 1.04 500 = 5.79 9000 = 104 600 = 6.95 700 = 8.11 800 = 9.26 900 = 10.
Skyrules Posted February 1, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 1, 2006 They weren't using Euro's when we were there in June - everything everywhere was in Central Pacific Francs. The only place I saw that took AU or NZ currency was the supermarket (called Casino) opposite the passenger wharf. They said they took the AU/NZ, at the current exchange rate, for purchases. This shop aslo had a lot of Kiwi products... I was able to get some Kiwi potato chips there that I'd taken a fancy to when visiting NZ the previous Christmas. rockie Posted February 1, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 1, 2006 I don't think it is worth changing your money into Vatu as they all accept $AU in Vanuatu. Makes things a lot easier.
jessica3152 Posted February 1, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 1, 2006 Sorry for my typo. P&O still convert Pacific Francs for New Caledonia though we found quite a few spots in Noumea that accepted AUD anyway.

aussiedisneyfan Posted February 4, 2006 #11 Share Posted February 4, 2006 Didn't see Euros anywhere in Noumea. Most shops were basing 80 vatu to 1 AUD in Vila. And again most shops accepted AUD. In fact the bigger ones that visa'ed actually charged you in AUD. If you pay in AUD in Vila your change will more than likely be given in Vatu. There is plenty of donations stands around to give your change to.
