avalon007 Posted October 31, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2019 Hi, Anyone done a private/self drive day trip from Tauranga up to the Coromandel area in NZ? Just wondering if it's a possibility or too far to get back in time & still have enough time to do anything once there.
Kiwi Kruzer Posted October 31, 2019 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2019 Probably a bit ambitious. Assuming its a one day cruise ship visit to Mt Maunganui you might get up to Whangamata , have time for a quick look around and then have to head back. Traffic can be very heavy especially if a weekend or holiday . You could also get held up getting through Tauranga itself. Coromandel itself is a beautiful area to visit , but its more of a weekend trip . Might not look far on the map but lots of hills and windy narrow roads . datone Posted November 1, 2019 #3 Share Posted November 1, 2019 We were in Mt Maunganui earlier this year on Majestic Princess and hired a car. Went to the Karangahape Gorge and did the windows walk - lovely scenery and highly recommended. Also managed to have a look at Whangamata and Pauanui. Even though we weren't leaving until 7 pm - 12 hours in port from memory - there was no way we had time to go any further north.
