gf42 Posted November 20, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 20, 2019 Does anyone know if all the clamshells are in one area ? Can you move them to other areas on the beach ? Do they offer umbrellas? I don’t see them listed
rockymtn2 Posted November 20, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 20, 2019 There are no umbrellas, only the clamshells. The clamshells are not movable and are lined up along the last row of the loungers against the trees and bushes. If you're on a HAL ship, I recommend you book online before you sail. We were there last March and all the clamshells were reserved by the time we got there.
catl331 Posted November 20, 2019 #3 Share Posted November 20, 2019 (edited) I thought I read that they were going to start offering "sun shelters" (or something like that) which were going to be like a light-weight three-sided tent, for a lesser price than clam shells. Or maybe replacing the clam shells. Anybody have info on that? Edited November 20, 2019 by catl331
Belgian fry Posted November 20, 2019 #4 Share Posted November 20, 2019 Yes, there is some other kind of sun shelter available for my cruise in March. I forget the name. It's cheaper than a clamshell.

Judyrem Posted November 20, 2019 #6 Share Posted November 20, 2019 I was going to rent one on the Nieuw Statendam the very first day through our concierge and they were ALL booked! Needles to say, it clouded up early and we were fine. They need more shade areas however!
Naismith Posted November 24, 2019 #7 Share Posted November 24, 2019 We were at HMC earlier this month and thought there were a lot of shady chairs, if you walk as far as the pirate ship bar. In front of that building and in front of the cabanas past there, it was very pleasant. However, that was with only 1 ship on the island. I am sure that with 2 ships it would become much more crowded, which may be the norm once the new pier is built.
Molson99 Posted November 24, 2019 #8 Share Posted November 24, 2019 We rented a clamshell in March one year... while it did provide some shade, it was HOT and hard to let any breeze in. It is a heavy material and holds the heat. We ended up just sitting out on some chairs with a bit of shade.
Beachnut53 Posted November 26, 2019 #9 Share Posted November 26, 2019 Rented a clamshell last week and loved it...no heat issues. They were in high demand, so suggest you book advance of boarding. Some people were very disappointed. The attendant was great, set up our clamshell, clean sand off chairs. If you are not renting a clamshell, bring a small towel to brush off chairs, the sand is very fine and clings to chairs.
