NOLA w/ 15 & 17yr olds ?

We have never been to New Orleans before looking for some recommendations of what to do and see with a 15 &17 yr old.We will have two days post cruise to explore

New Orleans is no Orlando-- the emphasis on drinking is higher than in most cities-- but doesn't mean you can't see some worthwhile things and have some great meals with a 15 and 17 year old. The French Quarter at night will be a little raucous at night (especially Thurs-Sat, but reasonably so the other nights) so if anyone is shy best to see during the day. 

 

Depending on your tastes I would research some ideas for meals-- New Orleans is a world class eating town. Commander's Palace is one of the more cliche restaurants that still should be a must for a first time visitor-- its a nice blend of out of towners and locals and the food is very good and the ambiance is special. There are a few jazz brunches that are excellent-- Arnaud's is a favorite of ours. Coffee and beginets at Cafe du Monde is also touristy but very good. Willie Mae's Scotch House is excellent for fried chicken for lunch. 

 

The World War II museum is excellent if thats of interest. A trip to one of the cemeteries and the Garden District in general is very nice (with a ride on the trolley of course). And listening to jazz at Preservation Hall is a great spot for a first time visitor (and there isn't a bar inside-- just standing in a room for a short show).

Ditto on the WWII museum, well worth the time and money. Enjoy the restaurants and food while you are there. I suggest breakfast at Willa Jean but make reservations if you go. Domenica or Pizza Domenica is great for their wood fire pizza. Go on a carriage ride in the French Quarter to learn some history of the area.

Do a Google search for "what to do in New Orleans." You will find dozens of options. Show them to your kids and see what interests them. Some are year-round, some are seasonal, and there are always special events/festivals.

We have done the Segway tour with our 18/15 yr old, and they loved it as did the adults! Highly recommend! Can't miss Cafe Du Monde the original...it's beyond delish and just a fun experience!

We would take our son with us to New Orleans whenever we could. Now as an adult it is one of his favorite places!

 

The French Quarter is a fun place to spend the day. Check out all of the various shops (Royal Street is full of shops). Grab some beignets at Cafe du Monde. People watch at Jackson Square.Wander through the French Market. 

 

Head uptown on the Street Car. You could stop at Tulane University and walk through the campus. Tulane is located in the Uptown section of New Orleans. Loyola University is next to Tulane. Also in the area is Audubon Park and Audubon Zoo. 

 

Introduce them to some of the best dining in the world! From fine dining to diners New Orleans has it all...and everything is delicious! Po-Boy's - Gumbo - Jambalaya - Pralines - Beignets - Crawfish  and on & on & on

 

Mardis Gras World is a fun museum experience. The World War II Museum is also well done. Preservation Hall for some wonderful music.
