San Fran Hotel

Hi All,

We are flying into San Fran the evening before our cruise to HI in April. Since we are only resting our heads before we head to the port in the morning, can anyone suggest a hotel that will not break the bank that is close-ish to the pier? We would most likley Uber there directly from the airport.

thanks!

When our daughter was living in the Marina District, we got accustomed to staying at the Cow Hollow Inn...Reasonably priced, large rooms, free parking (I know you won't need that, but a BIG bonus in San Francisco).  The small local chain actually has several properties in the Marina and Fisherman's Wharf area--which puts you in a nice part of town, near shopping and restaurants and not very far from the pier (short easy ride with an Uber)...

We're just back from SF, and while a conference initially put us up in a swanky downtown hotel we again moved out to our favourite neck of the woods for cheap-but-decent to extend our stay. The group of same-owner motels around Cow Hollow - Lombard Inn, Chelsea Inn, Coventry Inn and a couple of others - have always been good to us, and I can report that the Coventry has had a very recent change of mattresses and they are delightfully firm. We slept better there than in our downtown fancy place! No frills, a bit scruffy around the edges (expect the odd dings & scrapes on skirting boards etc.) but clean and pretty quiet (though ask for a room at the back if you are light sleepers, they're all on Lombard which is a big street so do get a fair bit of street traffic - but this also means a smooth drive next day to the pier).

Edit - well there you go, two reccos out of two on these properties!!!!

2 hours ago, Bruin Steve said:

"Frisco" is what they hate even more..."SF" probably won't work either...

Locals refer to it merely as "The City"...

Steve is right, SF would be acceptable but “The City” is what locals will use , even those from elsewhere in the Bay Area.

I would also recommend one of those, probably the Columbus Inn as it has recently been remodeled and is closer to Fisherman's Wharf.  We stayed at the Lombard Inn a few weeks ago after a HI. cruise.  It is clean but really need updating to include new mattresses and pillows.  As Martincath said, a room in the front facing Lombard street will be noisy.  Taxi ride will be under $20 and there are plenty of Ubers etc.  Hope you enjoy your cruise!

Another vote for the Columbus Inn.  We live pretty close to the City but when we want to spend the night there instead of driving home, we chose the Columbus Inn.

Within walking distance of a number of places to eat, on the bus line and cheap Uber rides anywhere downtown.
