bubbie74 Posted December 18, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 18, 2019 A couple weeks ago we were unable to take our cruise as our outbound flight to Orlando was cancelled due to mechanical problems. I reached out to my fellow cruise critic follwers concerning the carnival protection plan which we purchased. I had several responds, some supportive and others critizing my lack of homework sort to speak when purchasing the insurance. I am now in the process of rescheduling a cruise so now I am reaching out to my critics with insurance suggestions, tips etc. If suggesting purchasing insurance on my own, which company? Just as a side note, still do not know the outcome of my existing claim with Carnival protection.
klfrodo Posted December 18, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 18, 2019 Glad to see that you are back. Hope that you were able to implement the CFAR portion of the Carnival Protection Plan. My suggestions: 1. Check out the travel insurance board here on cruise critic. You can find it here https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/499-cruisetravel-insurance/ 2. Many people recommend 3rd party insurance over cruise lines insurance. Mainly because of costs, but also (as you learned) cruise line protection plans don't provide much help and guidance when you need them. I recommend https://tripinsurancestore.com/ If you just read thru the FAQ's section of this page, you will learn more about travel insurance than you ever thought you should. Also check out https://www.insuremytrip.com/ I have not used them, but hear that they have a good reputation also.
Nevada Jen Posted December 18, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 18, 2019 I use insure my trip. The pop up chat person was really helpful with answering questions about what was covered. You can wait until you make final payment to insure the trip but I wouldn't wait because of the preexisting condition exclusion. If you are good and healthy, purchase when you book. But realize it will not be refundable. At least take the time to use the pop up chat person to make sure you did it right (my dad was from a different state, so I had to do his separate from ours, for instance.)
