HazeGray Posted December 19, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2019 Just saw the weather report for New Orleans on this Sunday(22 Dec). 35-40 MPH Northerly winds. Wonder how if any it effect the Getaway navigating down the Mississippi. Any Cajuns out there with experience on the Big Muddy in windy weather. cruisinmeme Posted December 19, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 19, 2019 It is not unusual to feel a bit of a jerking sensation while navigating the river due the constant curves in the river. You will probably feel a bit more of that with the higher winds. Will be nice and cool outdoors between temperature, wind and being on the water. Enjoy your cruise
Homosassa Posted December 19, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 19, 2019 I am not sure what weather report you are looking at. As we will be in NOLA on 12/22, we have been checking the weather in order to pack the appropriate clothing. Any report we have seen forecasts NW winds of 16-18 mph on Sunday. HazeGray Posted December 19, 2019 Author #4 Share Posted December 19, 2019 Weather channel this morning predicted the 35-40 in the early evening. No worried about the ride, I was in the Navy. Just curious if it will affect the sailing time. Winds tend start to decrease after sundown.

Everything I checked still says NNW 18 mph for New Orleans. on Sunday and lower wind speeds for Monday. I was concerned by your post because our kids are flying into NOLA on Sunday and the type of winds you are talking about would impact their flight. Are you checking a marine forecast for out in the Gulf? I see 20-30 knot winds for the Gulf.
