JBVols Posted February 3, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2006 Does Oceania provide complementary water shuttles that drop passengers near San Marco square? If not, what is the best way to get there from the ship?
Andee Posted February 3, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2006 When we are on Oceania in 2004, we docked a short walk from a vaporetto stop and used that to get around.
ClaudiaF Posted February 4, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 4, 2006 There were no free shuttles when we went .. easiest way is to go by water bus ..there is a stop near the ship dock. Just make sure you buy a ticket for San Marcos direct if that is where you want to go , and get on the bus with the correct number to go there.. on one trip there we made the mistake of getting Grand Canal tour ticket which was a great tour of the grand canal also about 1 and 1/2 hours .. non stop and we wound up back where we got on..by passing San Marcos completely so had to get another ticket.. live and learn..or learn from others mistakes :-) :D
tapawingo Posted February 4, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 4, 2006 We stayed at a small hotel not far from the dock and took a taxi the next day. Also took a taxi from the airport to the hotel.
Petoonya Posted February 5, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 5, 2006 If you don't mind walking- you can get to St Marks easily from Stazione Maritima where we were docked last May. Takes about thirty minutes. Depending on which route you go- the first ten minutes take you through a marina/industrial area and the next twenty are winding through the usual lovely fondamente and architecture that is Venice. The "Streetwise" series has a map of Venice that is indispensible- I can't tell you how many times we are asked to borrow it when we have been using it. It's part of the charm of Venice to get lost but once in awhile when you are looking for a particular site it's nice to know where you are. JBVols Posted February 5, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted February 5, 2006 Thanks for the information, I'm new at this so you're help is greatly appreciated. We are also new to Oceania. One of the reasons we booked with Oceania (October 10,2006 Venice to Istanbul) was that the people on this broard had so many good things to say about this cruise line.
