I am DF due to allergies.  Princess takes excellent care of me. In the MDR they show me the next nights menu and I place my order At that time. My food is cooked dairy free. In the buffet ask for the main chef and he will walk through the buffet with you and tell you what is safe for you to eat.

thanks for the photos, that clarifies things quite a lot, all of your desserts appear to be cake so I don’t imagine they’ll be gf and df, I will still bring my own biscuits and chocolates for dessert.

Yum.  Looking at your pics remind me of why I hate being celiac.  I am happy you had success with your dietary needs.

They are cake like because I wanted cake. They also have gluten-free items in the international café. Talk to them and see what they can make you. You may be surprised.

Thank you but I’m positive that they could make you something just as tasty. One of my favorite desserts actually is a small little cup of some type of cream. I’m not sure what they made it out of but it was so good. The only problem with that dessert is that I could’ve eaten four of them.

@ozscotart Princess has been wonderful with DW’s food allergies. She cannot eat Gluten, dairy or eggs. Last night they made her tiramisu which she said was delicious!  I’m doing a live from detailing her meals so feel free to take a look. Today for breakfast she had pancakes which she said were also good. Here are some of the dishes she has had thus far.

On Island Princess right now. MDR does a good job with GF dining - most dishes can be modified, some are already GF. Only one GF desert available if not counting icecream.

The buffet is a problem. GF dishes are labeled but labeling is inconsistent. Front line employees do not know which dishes are GF and have to go ask the cooks (which takes time). GF and non-GF dishes are side-by-side so the risk of cross-contamination is very high.

Day-long shore excursions that include lunch are a major problem. Food prep is handled by the tour operators and nobody seems to know what gluten is or they just don't speak English and cannot tell you what the ingredients are. We are not supposed to take any food off the ship with us but there's just no other choice.

Overall, Princess does a better job than most other cruise lines but there's still a lot of room for improvement. My recommendation would be to eat exclusively at the MDR and to avoid longer excursions.

This.  Was on the December 2019 15-day Hawaiian Cruise and this is what I experienced.  I have celiac disease so need to be very careful and mindful of what I eat.  Buffet was very disappointing—yes, they had GF muffins, breads, pancakes—but a couple of times I had to ask staff to change gloves and to use a different toaster.  Hit and miss, so much so that I stopped eating at the buffet.

Specialty restaurants were great and so was Alfredo’s.   I had to pass on the Salty Dog because it seemed every time I spoke to someone about GF options, I got a different answer.  International Cafe always had a couple of GF options.  Just had to watch to make sure gloves and utensils were changed.

MDR was fantastic.  They could accommodate almost any dish—I had pasta, bread, beef Wellington, curry, lobster, etc.  Did not feel deprived.  Table mates also enjoyed getting a preview!  I would also advise you to eat breakfast and lunch there as well.

i have cruised on NCL and Disney as well—Princess was the best with accommodating my dietary needs.

My advice to your daughter is to enjoy but still be vigilant—which is no different than eating out at an establishment on land...

I'm sure she would love some recommendations for favorite gluten free foods onboard too!!

Was just on a 15-day cruise so have the opportunity to eat lots of GF on board.  Some of my favorites were:  pasta (lots of different sauces, Alfredo, etc), pizza (yum!), paninis, tomato bisque soup, chocolate almond flour cake, pineapple creme brûlée, Greek peasant salad at the IC, and all of the pastries at tea!

Princess will try and make anything she wants GF and will bend over backwards to accommodate her.   I had a dessert one night in the MDR (tiramisu) that I really enjoyed.  The HW knew I liked it so he saved me a couple and I was able to have it for lunch the next day.  And, I had an MDR dessert that was nasty (jello crap).  My waiter ran upstairs to the buffet and brought me the two GF desserts that were served there.

Yes, I am very pleased with Princess.

We have traveled with friends that have celiac disease and they have always been fine with Princess. They bring their testing monitor to help themselves feel more comfortable.

Love the animation on your avatar......

My husband is gluten free and we have sailed on Grand Princess three times to Alaska and are scheduled to go to Hawaii next month.  We always choose traditional dining, and the head waiter has been very careful about ordering just what hubby wants.  Princess doesn't want medical emergencies on the ship, and undoubtedly they would be open for lawsuits if they delivered food that injured allergic people.  As far as bread, on the Grand, they bake their own GF bread and it is amazing!  I often eat it and I'm not GF.  For breakfast at the buffet, we get it toasted and top it with the lemon, blueberry or strawberry compote and it is delicious!  There is always a GF dessert at the buffet, and usually two or three.

Princess is  VERY good about taking  care of its  passengers

I am also GF (not because of celiac. My doctor recommended the diet to get rid of migraines and it worked!). Princess has delicious GF muffins for breakfast in the buffet. They also have GF cereal which is OK. I do not care for their bread. They also offer two varieties of GF desserts for lunch/dinner in the buffet. They are indeed very accommodating for dinner. I pack Schar brand GF breadsticks in my suitcase and take them to dinner to eat with my salad. By the way, if you can find Schar products, all their GF products are delicious. I can't find many of their products in LA, but when I was in Barcelona, one of the supermarkets their had an aisle full of their products. I found a lot of Schar products on Amazon and ordered a bunch of stuff for home and future cruises.

Happy Cruising!

Arlene

I found Schar when I was in Europe as well.  If you have a Sprouts near you, they now carry Schar buns, sliced bread, and french baugettes.
