I am sure this has been answered, but do you know the hold or deposit on a debit or credit card for each cabin?

I understand, using a credit card just curiouse what the hold is? I have already paid off everything, also pucrchased Cheers, prepaid the gratuities. Was just cuirouse what the hold is for a 7 day cruise

Thanks so looks like CC hold is only $200 per cabin. Thats fine with me lol, odds are i wont even hit that lol. Always try to pay off everything prior so i pretty much dont even have a charge for sial and sign during cruise

I've read that they keep placing holds each time your folio hits a certain amount -- not just the initial cabin hold... and if that is all the cash you have (attached to the debit card)… and you don't have much, then you may run out of money from holds alone.  And as Coevan replied, debit cards have less fraud protection.

You can always just do cash, and bring either cash, or Gift Cards to fund it.  That way there is no hold, and no risk of going over.

I think i will just do cash this time around. Honestly, bringing my oldest step son so maybe cash is the way to go lol...put 

$200 down so he cant go over. Again already prepaid gratuities, purchased cheers, purchased soda package, purchased wifi for stepson, and excursions are already paid for as well. Thinking $200 will be a good start and if need be will add more lol

Another option is Cruise Cash. You login to your Carnival account and buy it from the online FunShops. It'll be in your S&S account(s) when you get onboard. Just keep in mind that it's technically non-refundable, use it or lose it. But if you have any left, you can go to a slot machine, deposit it into your Player's Bank, spin once or twice, then cash out at the casino cage.

 

It'd probably surprise people to hear how little I spend onboard. I'll usually deposit $100 into my S&S and struggle to spend that much (little). Last month, I had $35 left out of $100.

Wow!    And I thought I was cheap!  JUST KIDDING!  On our Dream cruise, we started out with $150 OBC from our TA, then added 2, $100 Carnival gift cards. Drank all we wanted to drink(well, almost), bought t shirts, a cap, and some odds & ends, and wound up with $71.68 from our S&S acct, which was refunded back to us several days later.

I prefer frugal, thank you very much! LOL Really though, there just isn't a lot on board that I want to spend money on. We don't do specialty restaurants and I don't have any desire to eat at any of the pay-for eateries. I don't drink specialty coffees or much alcohol, and I bring a 12-pack of soda with me. I go to the arcade with our boy (never too old for that), I buy a milkshake or two, a little beer, and that's about it. We'll be on Horizon in March and since it's our first time on a Vista class ship and they have more options, who knows, I might hit that $100 mark. 🤑

Sounds familiar. We don't do specialty coffee(wife doesn't drink coffee at ALL and the Lido coffee is just fine with me.). We're going to try the Steakhouse on our next cruise, we don't drink tons of water so don't buy it, (what water I drink comes from the spigot in our bathroom. ), we both bring our 12 packs of sodas, so not an issue there. Never had a milkshake on board, but would like to try that. Soooooo.....not much difference, eh? Oh! And frugal is a more civilized word. Sorry 'bout that.

I did ask the wife if she'd like to try the steakhouse sometime, but I don't know if we can pull the trigger on a $38/person meal. Yikes! OK, I admit it, we're cheapskates. I don't drink coffee at all either. I tried it once a long time ago. I wanted to see what the fuss was about, but I couldn't hack it, so that was the end of that. Soda is my coffee. I love their milkshakes, but these stupid sugar straws they have now drive me nuts. I can only drink about half the milkshake before the top of the stupid straw gets soggy. And if I grab the straw to stir the shake, it's all sticky. But that topic is for another thread. 😏

Totally understand the cost shock for steakhouse, for sure! We'd like to do it, but it depends on what tax time results are. Coffee? My limit on coffee is 1 cup/day, ONLY in the early morning. Anything more than that, I can't sleep at night. My wife is like you. Coke is her coffee. In fact that's the ONLY  soda she drinks. The sugar straws, even though I've never tried it(and don't want to) repulse me. So I'll just bring my own straws, thank you very much.

I don't spend much either I booked through a ta and had $50 obc.i didn't put any other money down on my sail and sign we had $35 left on the last night went to the casino to cash out and wound up winning $65 to go with that $35.

If you have $500 cruise cash on your cabin at check in, they don't ask you to put down a cash deposit as well? 

I have never tried that because we use a credit card but I do have friends that use cash so curious about this.  Thx

That's right, you won't need to start out with any other funds on it if there's Cruise Cash.

 

We always buy Carnival gift cards and prefer to use them to buy Cruise Cash just so it's on our accounts. Last month we just took the gift card with us to fund our S&S. We sailed out of NOLA and they forced us to go to the Guest Services counter inside the terminal instead of letting us wait until we got onboard, which is what I wanted to do. That lady took forever, didn't know what she was doing, and had all kinds of problems putting one simple gift card on our S&S account (the 3 of us shared one primary account that time). We had FTTF, but she put us so far behind that we were called for boarding at the very end of the FTTF group. Before we even got out of the waiting area, I heard them start calling general boarding. So we're never going to allow the terminal workers to handle our S&S accounts again. We'll make sure to have some Cruise Cash on there ahead of time. I was also told by another forum member that they can't do that...they can't force you to do it in the terminal. That we're definitely allowed to tell them we want to wait and do it onboard.

Gads O.C. ! I'm so sorry that terminal worker denied you the privilege of getting full benefit of FTTF! That's a shame.  Words of wisdom according to Organized Chaos:  Wait until you are onboard to add to you S&S account!

This staff training inconsistency is exactly why I also get cruise cash before we go.  I go to guest services to add any other gift cards over the $500 max when there isn't a line so it doesn't mess with my vacay vibe on day one!  It is still $500 max, per cabin right?

Oh man, I was steaming. She had to ask the lady next to her what to do a couple times. Then she screwed something up and called over a supervisor. All this time I'm seeing people walk up to their counter after us and walk away long before us. I was chomping at the bit. Early boarding is one of the big reasons we buy FTTF.

 

I think it was user Shaded Lady who told me we don't have to do it in the terminal. She said they tried to make her do that somewhere (I forget where) so she gave them what for, told them no, that they're much faster onboard and know what they're doing...and they let her go.
