Wayfairers Posted January 15, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2020 We are not going to be on a world cruise, but will be on 3 cruises plus 11 weeks on land independently in Europe for a total of 4-1/2 months. We are Americans. We need data (preferably unlimited) and National/international text but voice only in emergencies. In 2015 spent a month in the UK with a local SIM card and an unlocked phone that worked ok but was a bit of a pain having to locate a place for reloading. Met a crew member that used google phone and thinking that is probably the route we will take. I’m planning to call the phone companies to get our options but wanted to check on here to see if anyone has had experience with using a phone throughout Europe. 2552phxcrzr Posted January 15, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2020 We've been using T-Mobile since 2017 both here and overseas ... unlimited text and data all over the world and 20 cents/minute for voice calls ... included in the monthly rate. Have yet to encounter a country where we've had issues. Supposedly the speed is limited to 2G ... but we regularly get 3G or LTE depending on where we are. No contract. I know some people who get a phone just for T-Mobile overseas use and then cancel when they get back.
