Things to do in Newport other than mansions

We are sailing to Newport and plan to visit the Breakers.  I can't see the tour taking all day and we are looking for recommendations of other things to do.

There are other mansions along Bellevue that I think are more interesting than The Breakers-- Marble House and The Elms are my favorites. The Breakers just gets the top billing because it's the largest. 

 

Afterwards you can go have drinks on the lawn at Chandler at Cliff Walk or the Lawn at Castle Hill Inn both overlooking the water. You can visit the Tennis Hall of Fame. Plenty of places to eat and drink right in the main part of town by the water.

Rent a car for the day and go and discover some of the beautiful beaches like Narragansett and the Jamestown area, etc.!!!!!!  Start checking online for great seafood places and plan your day around that.  Gorgeous views and lovely sea experiences!!!!!!!!  Or check out boat rides from Newport to explore the coast.

Walk the Cliff Walk, visit Touro Synagogue, shop, eat, take a boat ride, etc, etc.

Maybe a crazy question, but is there a beach that might be good for swimming/sunbathing in late July?
