Using Internet in Port

I was reading in a travel book about internet cafes at some port cities. The prices they quoted sounded much cheaper than while on board ($1.00 a minute maybe?).

 

Where do you use the internet, on ship or in port?

On vacation, we don't use the internet.

Oops, that should have read $1.00 an hour, not minute lol. Ordinarily I wouldn't consider using the net either, but I thought it might be a nice way to check in on things at home rather than making expensive phone calls.

But you'd have to be lugging your laptop around with you while in port. :( Internet Cafes have computers there for your use and the charge is usually very reasonable.

It depends which ports you will be in. You can often find an interenet cafe near the port. I found one in Barcelona for $2.00/hour. There are web sites that allow you to search the world for cybercafes in various cities. The other thing to do is talk to crew members on the ship and find out where they go to use the internet. Since they use internet and\or phones to keep in touch with home they have probably already scouted out the best places in each port.
