armywifefisher Posted February 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2006 Which is beeter and why? I seen that the Weastern Labadee, Hispaniola has a waterfall. Does any of these ports ( Cococay, Bahamas; Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; Philipsburg, St. Maarten) have a waterfall also? If so do you have a pic? firsttimecruiser77 Posted February 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2006 If waterfalls are what you are looking for, I'd do the western. You can, of course, go to Dunn's River Falls. This is a huge waterfall that you can climb.
TEXASMUNK Posted February 9, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2006 Western: Far superior snorkeling and scuba (Pelicar reef) Western: Ports less "trampled"
Captain Crunch Posted February 9, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2006 Nothing is prettier than the Virgin Islands and sailing between St. John and Virgin Gorda.
1corona4u Posted February 9, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2006 Eastern if you like to shop and sightsee, western if you like water sports, and excursions...I like the eastern better. It's just prettier to me...
cruiseguy456 Posted February 9, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 9, 2006 You'll have to do both. It's so hard to choose. :p
Georgia6 Posted February 9, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 9, 2006 For the beauty: Western. The beaches are beautiful. There is also more to do in the Western. If you like to shop then Eastern is the way to go. I agree you should do them both.
carbon Posted February 10, 2006 #9 Share Posted February 10, 2006 Western has too many tender stops. Have been to Grand Cayman 2 out of 4 attempts.

FlyingPhotog Posted February 10, 2006 #13 Share Posted February 10, 2006 Western: Far superior snorkeling and scuba (Pelicar reef) Western: Ports less "trampled" I've never seen a port more trampled than Cozumel. On our Navigator Eastern cruise last June 4-10 we had San Juan, St Thomas and St Maarten all to ourselves as the only ship in port! Nassau had 3 others I think. Maybe we just lucked out? It all depends on who you would rather have trying to sell hairbraids and trinkets to you while you sun on the beach.
mutleychip Posted February 10, 2006 #14 Share Posted February 10, 2006 When in doubt do them both! We did the eastern last year but are doing both next year. This is partly due to the bad weather we encountered end therefore we unable to get to Grand Cayman.
Cruising89143 Posted February 10, 2006 #15 Share Posted February 10, 2006 I much prefer the eastern. The islands are much nicer looking. Cozumel and Grand Caymen can be hell if there are a lot of ships in port.
GabrielaNG Posted February 11, 2006 #16 Share Posted February 11, 2006 I loved Western, the little shops and waterfalls in Jamaica, the stingrays at Grand Cayman, not to mention "Hell" and the turtle farm. Mexico was ok, but then we were there only for a bit and I was down with a fever. My Eastern favourites were San Juan (highly recommend a self-guided tour and going to see the fortification walls). I did find the eastern islands of St. Maarten and St. Thomas a bit boring, this time I'm making sure that I book some interesting excursions. It's hard to complain when one is in the warm Caribbean when it's snowing at home, though. I could skip Tortola, although it's quite nice and I could definitely skip Antigua. :p
